Beverly Sloan Of Cross Plains Dies in Bicycle Crash With SUV

CROSS PLAINS TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) –Beverly Sloan, well known in the Robertson County area, was killed this evening in what police are calling an accident while she was riding her bicycle to the store, she was 65.

According to police, Beverly had barely made it out of her driveway on her bike when she was struck by an SUV around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Beverly’s home sits on Hwy 31-W near the intersection of Hwy 25. MAP She was transported to an area hospital but she did not survive her injuries and now her family is left to pick up the pieces.

Beverly was well known in the area, she walked that route every day, sometimes she would walk or ride all the way to Walmart in White House,” according to Officer Logan Abernathy with the Cross Plains Police Department. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all her family and friends, he said.”

Beverly’s family reached out to Smokey Barn News this evening, they were very saddened by the loss of Beverly but wanted her many friends to know about her passing. Joseph Covington told Smokey Barn News that officials told him early on that the accident was severe and Beverly had critical injuries.

Smokey-Barn-Online-Ad-1-300x250-2Beverly pulled out of her driveway on her bicycle to go to the store and a red SUV hit her and carried her and the bike about 150 feet down the road, killed her instantly,” according to Evelyn Covington, who said she has known Beverly for forty five years.

She was well known and loved by everybody in Cross Plains, Gallatin, Portland, Goodlettsville, Madison, Hendersonville and many in Springfield. She was just well known. We wanted to get it out there so everybody knows, Evelyn said”

Evelyn told Smokey Barn News that after the accident, Beverly’s phone went missing. “Someone’s been calling people on it, we need it back so we can contact her friends.” Evelyn said.

According to Beverly’s family she has lived at that home on 31W for about four years. Her brother also lives on the same property.

The White House Community Volunteer Fire Department was the first on the scene. “Firefighters immediately began CPR while preparing the patient for the ambulance service. Two of our Firefighters assisted the Paramedic and EMT during transport to a hospital in Portland. The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident and will offer more detailed information tomorrow,” according to White House Volunteer Fire Chief Gerald Wakefield.

Officials did say there was a bicycle at the scene but they don’t know if she was on it or pushing it at the time of the accident.

The Sumner County’s Sheriff’s Office did release that just before 6:00 p.m. tonight on Highway 31W in Sumner Co. (between White House and Portland) 65 yr-old Beverly Jo-Sloan (who was on a bicycle) was struck by a 2011 Chevy Equinox. Beverly was taken to a Portland Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Sheriff Office also said no charges have been filed against the driver at this time but the investigation was ongoing.

UPDATE:

Funeral services for Beverly will be held Sunday September 20th at the Cross Plains Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 4562 Jernigan rd. MAP  Services will begin at 2:00 p.m., visitation with family and friends will start at 1:00 p.m..

The family is requesting that donations be made in lieu of flowers to help cover funeral expenses. If the donation is in check form please make it out to Beverly’s brother Bobby Huffines. The donations can be dropped at the church at anytime..
