Cheatham County Slips By White House Heritage 42-41 Friday Night

Screenshot_2014-02-15-02-25-19The 9-AA District Tournament had an exciting game scheduled between the White House Heritage Lady Patriots and the Cheatham County Lady Cubs at the Pickel Field House at the Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, TN. The game was not only a great game; it was also a nailbiter that came down to the very last shot. The Lady Cubs held on and topped the Lady Patriots 42-41.

Ichiban 300 ad If there was one word to describe this game, it would be intensity. This game was intense from the get-go. In the first quarter each team was fighting it out with the other as if they were in a boxing match. Both teams were going back and forth answering each score with one of their own throughout the entire first quarter.  Ashlee Douglas led Cheatham County with 6 points on route to a 14-12 lead over the Lady Patriots to close the first quarter.

Screenshot_2014-02-15-02-29-22The second quarter was much like the first. Both teams were rolling on all cylinders and lighting up the score board with a combined 26 points scored. White House Heritage’s Margaret Horn tallied up most of the  points in the quarter with 7 and Cheatham County’s Savannah Wourlund scored the second most with 5. The high scoring pace of the second quarter carried over into the third quarter for the Lady Patriots. They went on a 9-2 scoring run against Cheatham County with a combined effort from Lexi Morrell, Tori Permenter, Faith Williamson and Margaret Horn. The Lady Patriots had a 36-27 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Screenshot_2014-02-15-02-33-33The Lady Cubs came into the fourth quarter down by nine points and answered the call with their best quarter of the game scoring 15 points.  Now with just ten seconds left in the game all they had to do is stop White House Heritage from scoring, they did just that. The game was on the line and the Lady Cubs put just enough defensive pressure on Tori Permenter to alter her shot, the ball ricocheted off the rim sealing the victory for Cheatham County and their advancement in the tournament.

Screenshot_2014-02-15-02-21-12The Lady Cubs won the game 42-41. Coach Jimmy Harden of the Cheatham County Lady Cubs and Coach Joe Holloway of the White House Heritage Lady Patriots did an excellent job with their teams tonight. Both of the team’s played incredibly well and both deserved to win, but in sports only one team can, tonight it was  the Lady Cubs.
