Family Snaps Photos Of Tobacco Barn Fire Near Adams
ADAMS TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield family heading through the Adams/Cedar Hill area snapped these photographs of a tobacco barn on fire Saturday afternoon.
According to officials, the call came into 911 at 1:55 p.m. The barn is located on Highway 41 near Jo Byrns School. MAP The Adams Fire Department, North Robertson Fire And Rescue and Robertson County EMS all responded to the call. There were no reported injuries.
The total loss of the tobacco crop and the barn is estimated to between $100,000 to $120,000 with about $60,000 of that in the barn itself, according to Adams Fire Chief Ray Brown.
As far as a cause of the fire, Chief Brown (who has farmed tobacco himself) said, “The barn was already on the ground when firefighters arrived.” At that point determining a cause can be problematic. Brown said it was an active tobacco barn and all it takes is one twig or stick to fall on the burning embers and you have a fire.
This barn was a favorite for tobacco barn enthusiasts to photograph with it’s beautiful patina and faded red paint.
