Fire Damages Korner Market In Springfield: Firefighters Make Good Stop

Fire Damages Korner Market In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Korner Market, located at the intersection of 5th Ave and Kinneys Rd, was damaged by fire Tuesday evening.  MAP

The fire started around 8:30pm and according to Captain Yates with the Springfield Fire Department, the fire started in the back part of the structure but  was quickly contained to one room. Firefighters call it a “Good Stop.” The rest of the business did sustain extensive smoke damage, Yates said.

There were three people inside the business at the time of the fire, two employees and one customer.  Troy Rigsby was inside the business when the fire started, he stepped aside to talk to Smokey Barn News. Rigsby said he and the employees smelled smoke. Someone said a car outside might be on fire but Rigsby said he thought it was coming from inside the business. Rigsby and the two employees looked around and found smoke at the back of the store. The three then evacuated the building and called 911. All three made it out safely.

As far as a cause, though the fire is still under investigation Captain Yates told Smokey Barn News that preliminarily, it was looking like an electrical issue.

Kinneys Road and 5th Ave were closed for about two hours while crews put out the fire.

Smokey Barn News was live at the scene, a recording of our broadcast is below.
