Good Samaritans Leap Into Action During Springfield House Fire

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Chastity Tipton of Springfield and her little girl were home asleep this morning when they were awakened by loud knocks on the windows of their home. Their porch was on fire and a Good Samaritan, Leslie Thomas of Greenbrier, was trying to wake them up.

According to Captain Yates with the Springfield Fire Department, the residents of the home (located on the corner of Pine Cir and Central Ave) had a moving sale the day before and the left over items were pulled up onto the porch over night. Yates told Smokey Barn News that some time this morning the items were set on fire. Yates said they are calling the fire suspicious and the fire marshal was called in to take a look at the scene.

Witnesses say a couple driving by saw the fire and pulled the burning items off the porch while Leslie Thomas banged on the windows to wake up the residents.

Thanks to the actions of the Good Samaritans and quick response by Springfield Fire crews no one was injured and the fire was contained to the facade and porch area of the home. Smoke did penetrate the attic and then down into the living area but officials determined that the home was still livable.

Chastity Tipton was very grateful to the couple that pulled the burning items off the porch and to Leslie Thomas for waking her and her daughter up.

Chastity Tipton’s daughter took a liking to the Springfield Firefighters who seemed to enjoy entertaining her while they waited for the all clear to enter the home.
