Obituary for Dale Aaron Covington

William Marcus GriebelDale Aaron Covington was born October 27, 1956 in Gallatin, TN and he passed away in Cave City, KY on Sunday, June 11, 2017 as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Dale was 60 years old and a resident of Cross Plains, TN.

He was the son of Harold Miller and Lucy Beatrice Baldwin Covington. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clay Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Leonard Covington of Cross Plains, TN whom he married on November 26, 1991; son, Aaron Miller Covington of Cross Plains, TN, daughter, his puppy Maxie and sister, Tanya Radic of Nashville.

"Buck" PentecostJohn “Buck” Pentecost, age 85 of Springfield, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Donnie Bryant and Bro. Gary Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with John Michael Pentecost, Joshua Pentecost, Corey Braswell, Jeffery Pentecost, Bubba Pentecost, Brian Young, Chris Braswell, and Jason Pentecost serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jarrett Pentecost, Andy Pentecost, Dakota Hall, Zac Alley, Dustin Hall, Jonathon Young, Dale Reid, Cody Reid, Montana Honaker, Dallas Honaker, Tyler Braswell, and Brannon Pentecost. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 3 until 8 PM and Wednesday from 9 AM until the hour of service.

Mr. Pentecost was born June 12, 1932 in Robertson County to the late Mally Cleveland and Lisa Laura Abernathy Pentecost. He was lead to Christ at the young age of 9. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon since January 17, 1993. He was an employee of the Robertson County Highway Department, was a Springfield Police Officer for 15 years, and retired from Springfield Electric Department, where he was a tree trimmer. He was owner and operator of Buck’s Fireworks in Springfield for over 50 years. He loved hunting and fishing. His passion was swapping and trading, especially going to sales and frequently calling Swap and Shop.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Lois Phillips Pentecost of Springfield, who he married July 30, 1951; sons, Johnny (Carlette) Pentecost of Adairville, KY, Ricky (Barbara) Pentecost of Springfield, and Mark (Sheril) Pentecost of Springfield; floral squaredaughters, Dora A. Greer (Joe Rice) of Greenbrier, Norma (David) Young of Springfield, and Kimberly J. Henderson (Lee Krisle) of Springfield; 22 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery with John Abernathy, Clyde Dean, Steve Baxter, Paul Hart, Tommy Lyons, and Phillip Kelley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the White Oak Fishing Club. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM and Wednesday from 11 AM until the hour of service.

Mr. Jones was born May 5, 1953 in Robertson County to the late Jack and Gladys Marie Austin Jones. He was a farmer and a member of the White Oak Fishing Club, where he had been president for the last several years. He was also a member of the floral squarePossum Branch Backwoodsmen and the Widow Makers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Jones of Greenbrier, and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Obituary for Joe Robertson

Joe RobertsonJoe Richard Robertson, 83, of Springfield, died Friday June 9, 2017 at The Waters of Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted Monday June 12th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Diane Coppock officiating. Interment followed in the Palestine Cemetery with Jeffrey Grayson, Jeremy Robertson, Kenneth Wix, Josh Hall, Tony Walton, and Mark Walton serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his special nephew: Ronnie Wix, and his special friends: Eddie and Jean Long. The family received friends on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Robertson was born October 20, 1933 in Robertson County to the late George Elvis and Verdie Mae Raymer Robertson, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Robertson worked in law enforcement for 20 years, beginning with the City of Springfield Police Department, and then as a Deputy Sheriff with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Department. While with the Sherriff’s Department, he became the first detective of the department. He went on from there to the City of Springfield, and retired as a heavy equipment operator with the Public Works Department. He was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church. Mr. Robertson enjoyed being outdoors, and anything to do with old cars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Agnes Wilson Robertson, his brother: George Elvis Robertson, Jr., and by his sisters: Roberta Robertson Taylor and Loretta Robertson Wix. Obituary for Floyd Pope Hancock

Floyd Pope HancockFloyd Pope Hancock, age 95 of Springfield, died peacefully on June 7, 2017 He was the husband of Evelyn Hill Hancock and the father of Sandra Hancock (Joe) Hutts. He was born in the Hopewell community near Springfield on October 7, 1921 to the late Floyd Sylvester and Nellie Pope Hancock. He attended schools in Springfield and Orlinda. He farmed and operated Hancock’s Loose Floor in Springfield all his adult life. He also served as a Robertson County Commissioner for 42 years and participated in numerous community organizations. He was a lifetime member of

Hopewell Baptist Church and Milldale Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife of 71 years, Evelyn of Springfield, and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Joe of Brentwood, he is survived by grandchildren, Mary Carmen Englert and William Pope (Sarah) Englert of Nashville; great grandchildren, Simon Pope, Genevieve, and Rainer Englert; brother, Don (Ann) Hancock; and sister, Dorothy (Hugh) Johnson of Camden, SC.

He gave selflessly to the community and the family would like to thank the numerous people that loved and gave back to him especially during the last few years.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Bailey officiating. Burial followed floral squarein Hopewell Cemetery with Matthew Hancock, Justin Goodwin, Frank Hardaway, Tim Amos, Clifford Gregory, and Michael Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Fanny Dotson, Geanette Harper, Jennifer Lucas, Joyce Lunsford, Connie Lynn, and Maxine Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ruth Jackson Dean; a son, Timmy Dale Dean; a daughter, Pamela Dean; brothers, Bobby, Terry, Ricky, and Kenny Dean; and sisters, Joyce Dean, Eva Lewis, and Patty House.

Mr. Burnette was born March 29, 1929 in Robertson County to the late Thomas and Martha Ann Spurlock Burnette. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, and was a veteran of the United States Marines. He retired from Tappan and had also worked at Springfield Woolen Mills. He enjoyed gardening and watching things grow and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Reynolds Burnette; son, Tony Burnette; brother, Gordon Burnette; and sisters, Estelle Head, Earline Gregory, and Flossie Estes.

Honorary pallbearers were Nick Bryant, Tommy Hall, and the employees of the Robertson County Highway Department. Mr. Hester was born June 26, 1928 in Stewart County to the late Henry T. and Cora Mae Shelby Hester. He was a retired machine operator with the Robertson County Highway Department, where he had 59 years of service. Mr. Hester was a member of North Springfield Baptist Church. He loved to mow yards, spend time with his grandchildren, and watch baseball on TV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Raydell, Eugene, and Winfield, by his sister: Vonnie Mae Duff, and by his great great grandchild: Charles Brandon Whitehead.

Mr. Thomason was born November 24, 1941 in Savannah, TN to the late Edward Wilson and Geneva Reynolds Thomason. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the National Guard. He retired from Wylie Steel where he was a welder. He enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren, and floral squaregreat grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wonda Hill Thomason, and his son, Michael Thomason.

Mrs. Morris was born March 21, 1933 in Robertson County to the late Samuel Ragon “Ray” and Jonnie Louise Graves McAlister. She was a member of Barren Plains Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was a long time foster parent and enjoyed cooking and taking care of children and the elderly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Bruce and Raideaux McAlister.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Emerson Morris of Springfield; daughters, Anita Wilson and husband Elvis of Springfield, Rhea-Anne Pendley and husband Vernon of Springfield, Pamela Robinson of Hendersonville, and Lacey Morris of White House; son, Joey Morris of Springfield; sister, Effie Jo Ellis of floral squareSpringfield; sister-in-law, Barbara McAlister of Joelton; grandchildren, Brandon (Michele) Wilson, Jantzen Pendley, Alexis Pendley, and Conner Walls; and great grandchild, Joann Wilson.

Miriam ShewmakerMiriam Mizelle Shewmaker, age 81 of Springfield, TN died Thursday June 1, 2017 at North Crest Medical Center. Memorial services were held at 1 pm on Friday June 9, 2017 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Her remains will be interred in Croft Cemetery, Stanford AR. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 am until the time of service at 1 pm.

Mrs. Shewmaker was born June 22, 1935 in Little Rock, AR to the late Edgar P. Mizelle, Jr and Lillian Grace Grimmett Mizelle. Her husband, Wayne Preston Shewmaker, daughters, Lillian Diane Cecil and Kathy Marie Shewmaker and brothers, Dr. Joe Bill Mizelle, Edgar P. Mizelle III and Michael Lee Mizelle also preceded her in death. Miriam was a member of Springfield First United Methodist Church and a retired registered nurse. She loved reading and watching tv.
Surviving her are her daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Mizelle Wagner and Bret of floral squareJohnstown, CO and Mary Virginia Deel and Byron of Nashville, four grandchildren and four great grand children.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday June 3rd at 12 noon in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Tommy Crunk officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Anderson was born March 9, 1933 in Robertson County to the late Sammy Lee and Alma Grant Anderson. He was a retired Lieutenant from the Springfield Police Department with 26 years of service. Mr. Anderson was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. In floral squareaddition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Michael Anderson, his brother: J. Mart Anderson, and by his sister: Bobbie Scott.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife: Betty Sue England Anderson of Greenbrier, sons and daughters-in-law: Tommy and Carol Anderson, Steve and Vicki Anderson all of Greenbrier, brother: Mac Anderson of Springfield, sisters: Lucille Choate of Illinois and June Stone of Big Sandy, 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Mr. Parrish was born January 16, 1941 in Davidson County to the late John and Wilma Lee Ligon Parrish. He was a farmer.

Mr. Miles was born in Robertson County, Tennessee on September 11, 1945 to Billie Frances Smith Miles of Adams and the late Thomas Joseph Miles. He worked as a Master Welder and loved to fish. He was a member of the Stroudsville Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Heady Miles of Adams; son, Richard Meyer (fiancé Angela Hogue) of Granite City, IL; daughter, Terri Miller of Elkton, KY; brother, Jerry T. (Zelda Anne) Miles of Mt. Juliet; and grandchildren, Matthew Lynn, Morgan floral squareMiller, Caleb Fulton and Brenden Meyer; and his beloved dog “Scrappy”.

Linda Faye BrinkleyLinda Faye Brinkley, age 74 of the Shackle Island Community, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. She was a very special lady who loved being around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family. She loved cooking and had owned her own restaurant. She enjoyed the many regular trips to Gatlinburg with her brother and sister. She treasured the trips to Florida each year with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Brinkley, Sr.; son, Perry Brinkley; and sisters, Robbie Wix and Brenda Amons.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Crystal) Brinkley, Pat (Christine) Brinkley, Phillip (Tammy) Brinkley, Truise Phillips, and Bubba (Catherine) Brinkley; her grandchildren, Chris, Chloe, Joey, Nicki, Brandon, Chelce, Joslyn, Shelly, Ty, Lauren, Catlyn, James, Jacob, Aiden, and Easton; great-grandchildren, Casen, Christian, Braxton, Horizon, Ahlayna, Sadie Mae, Blayne, Brayden, Branson, Braylynn, Bryton, and Bryson; a brother, Ronnie Martin; and a sister, Wanda Phillips.

Wendell AllenWendell Buford Allen, age 77, of Chapmansboro, died Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock pm on Wednesday, June 14th at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Danny Demonbreun officiating. Burial will follow in Mallory’s Cemetery with Nathan Simpkins, Austin Simpkins, Owen Balthrop, Michael Wyatt, David Ringer, Sr., and Austin Stiltner serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 14th, beginning at 11:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mr. Allen was born in Dickson County, Tennessee on May 11, 1940 to the late Jay and Irene Davidson Allen. Before retirement, he worked as an auto parts distributor for P & E and Quall Cast. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Allen; son, Darryl Allen; five brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Owen) Balthrop of Chapmansboro; brother, Charles J. (Vickie) Allen of Erin, TN; sister, Kay Wyatt of Laurinburg, NC; floral squaregrandchildren, Ross Allen, Neil Allen, Nathan Simpkins, and Austin Simpkins; one great-grandson, Maverick Simpkins.

The family received friends on Saturday, June 10 from 2 pm to 3 pm at Ridgetop Seventh Day Adventist Church, Ridgetop, TN. The funeral service followed at 3 pm at the church with Pastor William Little officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenbrier Cemetery.

She was born in La Paz, Bolivia on February 23, 1942 to the late Jorge and Ines Peralta. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jorge Peralta Pabon and Juan Marcelo Peralta Pabon.

She was employed as a Physical Therapist.

Burial was held at Morris Cemetery in Pleasant View with Charles Balthrop, Laken Head, Gyle Head, Michael Bejma, Ricky Boyd, Harold Corlew, Malcolmb Norwood, and Patrick O’Neal serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Enrique Renteria, Jose Gomez, Juan Antonio Lopez and Juan Antonio Santiago.

Visitation with the family was held Monday 4-8:00PM and again on Tuesday from 1PM till the hour of service.

Mr. Knox was born February 14, 1938 in Cheatham County, Tennessee to the late James Leonard and Mattie Mae Blanchette Knox. He was a tobacco farmer, and a member the Oaklawn Free Will Baptist Church.

Mary EmmettMary Goodman Emmett, age 74, of Greenbrier, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Alive Hospice Skyline – Madison Campus.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 4pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Gene Brown officiating. Following the service her remains were cremated. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday from 1pm until the hour of service at 4pm.

Mrs. Emmett was born March 26, 1943 in Louisville, KY to the late Harry Joseph and Eskell May Webb Goodman. She worked at Yamakawa before retiring.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Emmett is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Emmett, Sr.; brother, Raymond Koons; sisters, Ruth Ferguson, Dorothy Sumner, Inice Morris and Laverne Boylan; grandson, Thomas Maynard; and great-grandchild, Riden Eric Maynard.

Mrs. Nichols was born February 15, 1925 in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late Edward & Goldie Farmer. She was retired from Genesco and was a member of Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Michael Nichols; and brother, James R. Farmer.
