Obituary for Gordon Traughber

Gordon TraughberRichard Gordon “Dick” Traughber, Sr., 91, of Springfield, died Saturday December 10, 2016 at North Crest Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday December 13th at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Heflin and Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Chris Traughber, Curtis Cherry, Rodney Arviso, Fred Green, Jay Jackson, Drew Jackson, and Jon Jackson serving as pallbearers.. Honorary pallbearers will be the employee’s of Robertson County Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Traughber was born January 10, 1925 in Davidson County to the late Oscar G. and Sarah Elizabeth Ferguson Traughber. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a retired Post Master from the Springfield Post office. After his retirement, he then began working at Robertson County Funeral Home in family services. He loved his work, he loved people, and he never met a stranger. Mr. Traughber served many years on the Robertson County Commission, having served during the time of the construction of the new Robertson County Health Department and the Robertson County Detention Facility. He was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over twenty years. He later moved his membership to Barren Plains Baptist Church. Mr. Traughber was a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge, where he was a Past Master, a member of the American Legion Post 48, and a former member of the Springfield Camp of Gideon’s International. He loved gardening and had an extraordinary green thumb. He was a man that loved his God and his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son: Jerry Jackson, by his sister: Edna Earl Vinson, and by his son-in-law: Walter Haynes.

floral squareMr. Traughber is survived by his wife of 67 years: Pauline Jones Traughber of Springfield, son and daughters-in-law: Richard G. and Shelia Traughber, Jr., of Springfield, Aleece Jackson of Dyersburg, daughters and sons-in-law: Janet Traughber Haynes of Crossville, Libby and Tommy Cherry of Pleasant View, niece: Beth Stillwell of Hendersonville, ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday December 13th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Clay Burchett and Bro. Doug Spain officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery with Kenneth Clinard, Chris Covington, Steve Stark, Tyrone Dotson, Michael Hyde, Billy Harper, Andy Robertson, and Ricky Stark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Keith, Ceanna Armstrong, Steve Stubblefield, Rod Casteel, Perry Bell, Jana Stark, and the SHS Class of 1989. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Chris was born October 13, 1971 in Robertson County. He was a member of Springfield High School Class of 1989. Chris was a former manager at Co-Op, and was a farmer. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Chris enjoyed UT Football and watching westerns and cooking shows on TV. He was preceded in death by his father: Jerry C. Burchett, Sr, and by his grandparents: Clayton Burchett, Maurice and Bonnie Heard.

Obituary for Katherine Eden

Katherine EdenMary Kathleen “Katherine” Eden, 92, of Springfield, died Thursday December 8, 2016 at The Waters of Robertson.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday December 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Diane Coppock officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Robert Alley, George Plumlee, Brian Eden, Jared Eden, and Donnie Nicholson serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eden was born May 2, 1924 in Robertson County to the late James Wesley and Mary Frances Moore Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Palestine United Methodist Church. Mrs. Eden loved flowers and was always known for her green thumb. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph Reynolds Eden, and by her sister: Frances Eden.

Mrs. Eden is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Larry Joe and Jane Eden of Springfield, Stephen Reynolds and Rosemary Eden of Springfield, sisters: Marjorie floral squareJones of Springfield and Margaret Savley of Greenbrier, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Edmond ByrnsEdmond Byrns, age 81 of Greenbrier, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 at his home. Graveside memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Byrns was born March 23, 1935 in Robertson County to the late Joseph and Gladys Johnson Byrns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Byrns, and his brother, Billy Dean Byrns. He was a farmer and a veteran of the Army Reserve. In his spare time, he enjoyed going dancing. He is survived by several cousins. The Robertson County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Stephen Ray DeanStephen Ray Dean, 46, died in a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Orlinda Baptist Church. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Stephen lived in Fort Worth for 20 years, 13 of which were shared with his significant other, Candie Bedison. Stephen graduated from Belmont University in 1993, served three years as a “journeyman” missionary in Japan, and received a Master’s of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary in 2001. He worked several years among generous friends at Flash Photography. He will always be remembered for a joyful spirit that loved God and loved people. Survivors: His parents, Rev. Dr. David R. and Carolyn Dean of Springfield, Tenn.; brothers, Michael (Michelle) of Framingham, Mass., Timothy (Julia) of Ithaca, N.Y.; and many extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 1pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother L.B. Jones and Brother Joe Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Roger Holman, Ricky Holman, Royce Holman, Jerry Holman, Len Holman, Ronnie Holman and Kevin Holman serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 4-8pm, and on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 11am until the hour of service at 1pm.
Mrs. Babb was born February 16, 1923 in Barren Plains to the late George Albert and Barbara Jean Caldwell Holman. She worked as a sales person for Furniture Center and was a member of Barren Plains Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Babb is preceded in death by her husband, Miller F. Babb; daughter, Lucretia Ann Babb; son, Miller Wayne Babb; sister, Martha Blanche Holman and brothers, James Benjamin Holman, Leonard Boyd Holman and Ralph Samuel Holman.

A private graveside service was held Saturday, December 10, 2016 in the Martin’s Chapel Church Cemetery with Allan Legard officiating. Her family served as pallbearers.

Ms. Watts was born September 23, 1925 in Robertson County to the late John Orville and Sarah Edgin Hallums. She worked at Allen Garment Company for over 25 years and was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to her parents Ms. Watts is preceded in death by her brothers, John William Hallums, Elby Hallums and Hugh Franklin Hallums. She is survived by her floral squaredaughter, Dorothy (Bobby) Davis of Springfield; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8PM and again on Friday from 11AM till the hour of service.

Mr. Ward was born on June 27, 1933 in Auburn, Kentucky to the late Omar and Pauline Ward. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Ward, second wife, Annette Ward, and grandson, Justin Ward.

Mr. Binkley was born on November 28, 1952 in Springfield, Tennessee. He was retired from the Cheatham County Highway Department and was of the Christian faith. Dan was a very special man. He was down to earth, loyal, resilient, fun-loving, and he loved his Mama.

He was preceded in death by his father, Madell Binkley; parents-in-law, John & Bonnie Martin.

Mrs. Sowell was born February 5, 1921 in Logan County, Kentucky to the late King David and Bertha Austin Pirtle. She worked as a cook in the Robertson County School System and was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Sowell is preceded in death by her husband, William Rex Sowell, her sons, Jack Alan Sowell, Paul Lee Sowell, William Earl Sowell, Joe King Sowell, Ray Sowell and Richard Sowell; and by her 13 siblings. Mrs. Sowell is survived by her sons, Jerry Sowell, Tommy (Setsuko) Sowell and Kenneth (Lynne) Sowell, all of Springfield; daughters, Faye Beaty of Adairville, KY, Ruth (Keith) floral squareRogers of Bardstown, KY and Linda Lou Wix of Springfield; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
