Obituary for Pamela Renee Smith
Pamela Renee Hudgens Smith, 47, of Springfield, died Thursday June 9, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday June 13th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny McCartney officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Sharon Cemetery with Michael Gardner, Scotty Gardner, Josh Bogle, Austin Hudgens, Justin Bright, Dailo Haynes, Brandon Waller, and Blake Waller serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Pam was born October 19, 1968 in Davidson County to Elizabeth Dean Lawrence Hudgens and the late Billy A. Hudgens. She had previously worked as a secretary at Electrolux and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Springfield. Pam loved music, being on facebook, and spending time with her family. In addition to her 
father, she was preceded in death by her son: Cory Hudgens. Pam is survived by her daughter: Kristan Smith of Springfield, mother: Elizabeth Dean Lawrence Hudgens of Springfield, brother and sister-in-law: Billy “Joey” and Angie Hudgens of Pleasant View, sisters and brothers-in-law: Sherry and Garry Bogle of Joelton, Shelia and Mike Gardner of Greenbrier, boyfriend: Gino Veteto of Springfield, father of her daughter: Steve Smith of Greenbrier.

Obituary for Wanda Sloan Poole
Wanda Gale Sloan Poole, 64, of Springfield, died Monday June 6, 2016 at her home. Graveside services were conducted Thursday June 9th at 1:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. Pallbearers were Chris Stark, Reggie Stark, Chuck Cannon, David Clouse, Mike Crain, David Burns, and Tony Farmer serving as pallbearers. There was no visitation prior to the graveside service.
Mrs. Poole was born October 6, 1951 in Robertson County to the late Ross Junior and Patricia Simmons Sloan. She was a graduated of the Greenbrier High School Class of 1969. Mrs. Poole was a homemaker and of the Nazarene faith. She is survived by her son: David Ross Burns of Springfield, daughter: Melissa Burns of Springfield, brother: Jerry Lynn Sloan of Springfield, sisters: Liz Couts of Springfield, Judy Hulsey of Russellville, KY, two grandchildren. Obituary for Virgil Rader Harper
Virgil Rader Harper, age 68 of Springfield, died Saturday, June 4, 2016 at NorthCrest Medical Center. Memorial services were conducted Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home. The family received friends Tuesday from 3 PM until the hour of service.
Mr. Harper was born January 30, 1948 in Robertson County to the late Claude Harper and Louise Briley Harper Owens. He was of the Baptist faith and was well known in the community as an excellent mechanic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Staci Harper Parks and brothers, Roy and James Harper.
He is survived by his sons, Monty Osborne and wife Jamie of Guymon, OK and Philip Osborne of Guymon, OK; daughters, Tracy Webb and husband Mike of Springfield and Ashley Harper of Guymon, Ok; brother, Robert Harper of Long Island, NY; sisters, Peggy Brown and husband Terry of Greenbrier and Patsy Ruley and husband Ben of Springfield; sister-in-law, Joan Harper of Gallatin; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Tennie Mae Gower, age 95, of Nashville, TN, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Elmcroft Senior Living in Hendersonville. Funeral services are Monday, June 13, 2016 at 2 o’clock pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Carl Frensley officiating. Burial will follow in the Heads Cemetery with Terry Harris, William Ray Harris, John Harris, David Hanson, Matthew Poynor, Tony Mercante and Mark Bragg serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10 o’clock am until the hour of service at 2 o’clock pm.
Mrs. Gower was born November 29, 1920 in Cheatham County to the late Hubert and Mattie Dozier. She was a homemaker and a member of First Wesleyan Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Gower is preceded in death by her husband, David Gower; son, Gerald Harris; sisters, Annie Lou Allen and Ruby Ragan; brothers, Emory Dozier, Alvin Dozier, Walter Dozier and Hubert Dozier, Jr. She is survived by her son, Tyrone (Agnes) Harris of Stevenson, AL; daughters, Rita (Martin) Poynor of Burns, TN and Sheila (James) Hanson of Hendersonville, TN; step-daughter, Dorothy Hazelwood of Donelson, TN; brothers, LC (Anita) Dozier of Donelson, TN and Jimmy Dozier of Ashland City, TN; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchilden.

Bobby Edward Long, age 51 of Nashville, passed away Thursday, June 09, 2016 at his residence. Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier is in charge of arrangements.

Long and Marie Cloud Jinks.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Long; son , Matt (Vanessa Halm) Brewer; daughter, Ashley (Mark Litherland) Long; sisters, Brenda (Alan) Wilson, Anna Marie Jinks, Amanda Cheri Long Rogers; grandchildren, Hayden Long, Matthew Brewer,Jr., Haley Brewer and Audrey Litherland.

Age 59 of Goodlettsville passed away on June 9, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born August 23, 1956 in Noblesville, Indiana to Ross Emory and Ruth Anna Yancey Ammerman. He worked in hardware sales.

Obituary for David Parker Wilkes
Age 85 of White House passed away June 8, 2016 at his home. He was born in Sumner County, TN February 3, 1931 to Alonzo Durward and Ona Moore Wilkes. He was a man who lived an adventurous life with a love for boat racing, farming and flying his Cessna 172 Skyhawk airplane. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Moore Wilkes; brother-in-law, Don Hamblen.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Hamblen Wilkes, White House, TN; son, Steve Wilkes, White House, TN; sisters, Mary Jo Gibson, Madison, TN and Joyce (Ray) Allen, Chapmansboro, TN; 2 grandchildren, Tyler Steven Wilkes and Parker Ryan Wilkes, White House, TN. Age 90 was called to her heavenly home on June 7, 2016. She was born in Home, Kansas on July 1, 1925, the youngest daughter of Ernest and Clara Keller. She married Edwin Stock on September 21, 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin and brother, Kenneth Keller.
Survived by her daughter, Vicki (Jon) Gullette, Hendersonville, TN; sister, Myra Stock, Marysville, Kansas; an Aunt, Iva Wanklyn, Marysville, Kansas; 2 step grandsons, Greg Gullette, Hendersonville, TN and Jon R. Gullette, Tracy, California; 3 nieces and 4 nephews.

Obituary for John Mathias Steinhauer, Jr
John Mathias Steinhauer, Jr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, July 23, 1925, to Johnny Steinhauer and Gertrude Garretty Steinhauer. He was the third child and first son. He grew up in East Nashville with his sisters Katherine (Coffey) and Martha (Shaw) and led a very typical early 20th century life with his policeman father and homemaking mother. This all changed in the summer of 1932, when, at the age of 7, John contracted what was then known as Infantile Paralysis (Polio).
As his father was a beloved Nashville City police officer who directed traffic on church street in Nashville, several prominent Nashville businessmen appealed directly to President Franklin Roosevelt for admission to his Warm Springs Georgia treatment center on behalf of his son. John was admitted for treatment and spent almost a year at Warm Springs. FDR was in his first term as President and visited Warm Springs for his own treatment four times during that year where John got to swim and dine with the President, and was even taken for a ride in the President’s car into the village of Warm Springs for ice cream. John never let the limitations of living the rest of his life with a full leg brace slow him down in any facet of his life.
John graduated from East High School in Nashville. He served as class President and was active in all aspects of the life of the school. East High and the Alumni Association remained a passion for John throughout his life. In the fall of 1951, on a train trip to Atlanta to watch Vanderbilt play Georgia Tech, Nashville Banner columnist, Red O’Donnell introduced John to Jane Hagewood, also from East Nashville. They were married on June 21, 1952. Their first daughter, Joni, was born in 1953 and son, Matt (John III), was born in 1955.
The next year John and Jane moved their young family to Hendersonville and built a house on what would soon be the shores of Old Hickory Lake. Daughter, Janet, came soon after the move in 1957, and a few years later, son Steven in 1961, and daughter, Julie in 1965. Initially, Jane and John continued their interest in the Nashville community, but as their children entered Hendersonville Elementary School, it became obvious that they needed to invest their time and efforts to help strengthen their newly adopted town.
John and Jane worked tirelessly to open opportunities for people who lived in Hendersonville. He organized the Evening Sertoma Club; worked with six other families to start St. Timothy Lutheran Church, where he served as chair of the building committee, taught Sunday school, and served on the congregational council.
After working his way into the community, John ran for elected office in 1964 to represent Sumner County in the Tennessee State Legislature. He lost that election but was elected two years later. Altogether, John served four terms in the legislature and one term as Chief Bill Clerk. During his freshman year, he sponsored the PKU Bill which required all newborns to have a simple, inexpensive test to help identify babies who could begin immediate treatment to prevent mental retardation. This procedure is still being used today. Additionally, a test to detect hypo-thyroidism in newborns was enacted into legislation because of his introduction of the bill. John believed that of all of the legislation that he introduced, these two remain the most important because of their humanitarian nature, helping to detect the potential for mental retardation and presenting a medical plan to prevent retardation. In the same year, he presented the bill for the State to purchase the historic Rock Castle, 18th century home to one of Hendersonville’s first settlers, Daniel Smith. Soon thereafter he became active in pursuing the establishment of Volunteer State Community College. The College opened its doors in 1971. He appealed to a State committee to get approval for the Hendersonville Hospital. Having been told that it took three committees to approve the request, and being assured that it would not get passed the third committee, his plea was accepted unanimously and the new hospital was constructed. Additionally, over the years, John served as a Hendersonville City Commissioner, on the Planning Commission and the Industrial Development Board.
His additional civic involvement included being an active member of the Sertoma Club of Nashville and serving on the East Nashville Boy Scout’s Board, the Easter Seals Board of Directors for the State of Tennessee, The United Cerebral Palsy Board of Directors, where he served as president, and he continued to be active in the East Nashville High School Alumni Association right up to his death.
John’s vocational life included opening and running Hendersonville’s first optical shop, a telephone answering service, and a public relations firm. He and attorney Dennis Sanders and Mike Flemming applied for to the FCC and were granted a license to operate Hendersonville’s first FM radio station: WHVT (now 92Q). He spent 25 years in the insurance business representing AFLAC.
Married to his wife, Jane, for 64 years, he is survived by four children: Joni Worsham (Phillip), recently retired principal of Hendersonville High School, Matt Steinhauer (Leann), Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Janet McCarthy (Joe, deceased), flight attendant trainer who lives in Chandler, Arizona, and Steven Steinhauer who lives in Chicago, IL. Daughter, Julie, preceded him in death. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Visitation was held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church 650 East Main Street Hendersonville on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 3pm to 8pm and on Wednesday, June 8, from 9am to 11am. The Funeral Service with Holy Communion was at 11am at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with Pastor Lewis Groce officiating.
