Obituary for Mark Mitchell

Mark-Mitchell-obit-aaMark Mitchell, 58, of Springfield, died Friday May 20, 2016 at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Monday May 23rd at 6:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Rushing officiating. Other family and friends will be speaking during this time of remembering and celebrating Mark’s life.

Mark was born November 8, 1957 in Robertson County to the late Joe H. “Pop” and Peggy Baggett Mitchell. He was a graduate of the Springfield High School Class of 1976. Mark worked as a Judicial Commissioner for the Robertson County General Sessions Court. He was an Eagle Scout, 2nd Degree Black Belt, loved playing guitar, enjoyed car racing, was an avid UT Vol’s fan, was a wonderful gourmet cook. Mark’s favorite pastime was spending all the time he could with his granddaughters: Hayden and Sydney.

Mark is survived by his wife: Annette Beasley Mitchell of Springfield, son and daughter-in-law: Rick and Katrina Mitchell of Pleasant View, granddaughters: Hayden and Sydney Mitchell of Pleasant View, sister and brother-in-law: Beth and Carney Felts of Springfield, mother-in-law: Sue Beasley of Springfield, sisters-in-law: Pam Evans of Springfield and Kaye Beasley of Gap, PA, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Robertson County Funeral Home Was In Charge Of Arrangements.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the North Crest Hospice

Therese-Mckillop-obitTherese McKillop, age 91 of Springfield, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Christian Care Center of Springfield. Her remains are to be cremated and buried in Norwood, MA. No services are planned in Springfield.

Ms. McKillop was born February 25, 1925 in Woonsocket, RI. She was a dress maker and volunteered at the VA Hospital in Boston, MA.

She was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the DAV.

floral squareShe was preceded in death by her son, John Joseph McKillop; parents, Agnes and Salem Lazelle; and sister, Agnes McPherson.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie and Frank Bryant of Springfield; grandchildren, Zachary Bryant, Andrew Bryant, and Steven Taylor; niece, Sandra Schoonover; and several cousins. Robertson County Funeral Home Was In Charge Of Arrangements.

Obituary for George Robert Bowles

In loving Memory squareMr. George Robert Bowles, age 81 of Springfield, TN died Monday May 16, 2016 at his home. He was born November 9, 1934 in Milltown, IN to the late Angus Overton and Bertha Templeton Bowles. His wife, Naomi Joyce Hawkins Bowles also preceded him in death. He was a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corp and retired from CSX Railroad.

Surviving Mr. Bowles are his son, Angus O. “Buddy” Bowles of Woodbury, TN; daughter, Paula L. Lowery of Indiana, Dana I. Blankenship of Cedar Hill. TN; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Bowles was cremated and a private military honors service was held. Robertson County Funeral Home Was In Charge Of Arrangements.

Johnny Wooden obitJohnny Richmond Wooden, 80, of Springfield, died Sunday May 15, 2016 at his home. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday May 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. The family received friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Mr. Wooden was born May 10, 1936 in Logan County, KY to the late Hobert and Alene Sircy Wooden. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. National Guard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wooden was preceded in death by his wife: Eva Louise Coulter Wooden, and by his brother: Robert Wooden.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Danny and Kendra Wooden of McMinnville, Shawn and Summer Wooden of Greenbrier, daughters and sons-in-law: Janice and Russell Mann of Springfield, Christie and Fred Swann of Murray, KY, Jennifer Wooden of Springfield, sisters: Sue Downey and Dorothy Perry both of Adairville, KY, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Robertson County Funeral Home Was In Charge Of Arrangements.

Former Ridgetop Police Chief Randall Adcock Dies

Randall Thomas “Randy” Adcock of Springfield, former Ridgetop Police Chief, passed away Saturday May 14, 2016 after a battle with cancer, he was 59.

Randy was born September 20, 1956 in Davidson County, Tennessee and spent his younger years with his grandfather in his garage, Adcock’s Garage, in Hendersonville.

Randy chose law enforcement as his career, being employed by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, Goodlettsville Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and retiring as Police Chief in Ridgetop, TN. He ended his career as Security Supervisor at the Bridgestone Arena.

Randy is survived by his wife, Donna Baggett Adcock; children, Dakota (Whitney) Duncan, Jessica Adcock, Randall Adcock and step-son, Brandon Isabell. He had three grandsons, Diesel, Ashtyn and Axle, who were the loves of his life. MORE

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Alvin Krantz officiating. Burial followed in the Hopewell Cemetery with Dakota Powell, Korey Byard, William Byard, Cody Baker, Henry Byard, Jr. and Jeramine Gutierrez serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday from Noon until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mrs. Byard was born November 2, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA to the late William and Olive Eckland Sherman. She worked as a clerk and was a member of the Christ Worship Center.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Byard is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Byard, Sr.; her step-daughter, Paula Lindquist; and her brother, William Sherman. She is survived by her sons, William (Debbie) Lindquist and Theodore Lindquist, both of Hemet, CA, and Michael Lindquist of San Bernadino, CA and Henry T. Byard of Bowling Green, KY; step-sons, William (Pamela) Byard of Greenbrier and Daniel (Shortie) Byard of Springfield; daughter, Rebecca Byard of Greenbrier; step-daughters, Debbie Graham and Brenda (Luke) Fritz, both of Springfield; brother, Timothy (Rose) Sherman of River Side, CA; sister, Lynda (David) Shelton of IL; 36 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Obituary for Robin Bowie

In loving Memory squareRobin Paul Bowie, age 76, of Greenbrier, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. A graveside service was held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 9:30am in the Mt. Sharon Cemetery with Brother Ron Bowie officiating. Burial followed with family and friends serving as pallbearers. A private visitation was held at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield on Saturday morning.

Mr. Bowie was born December 13, 1939 in Robertson County to the late Robin Earl and Thelma Head Bowie. He was a graduate of Austin Peay University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and worked for the Soil Conservation Service for over 30 years. After retirement he farmed in the Mt. Sharon Community raising beef cattle. He loved reading westerns, his farm and tending to his cattle.

In addition to his parents Mr. Bowie is preceded in death by his sister, Amelya Ann Bowie Shepard. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Davis Bowie; son Jeffrey Warren Bowie of Spring Hill; and daughter, Jamie Carol (Walter) Dudiak of Greenbrier.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund or to the Stokes Brown Library. Any donations may be sent in c/o Austin & Bell.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 19th, 2016 at 2 o’clock pm in the Chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Cliett Goodpasture and Bro. Johnny Trail officiating. Burial followed in EverRest of Cheatham with his grandsons, and Junior Hunter, Jimmy Ford, and Murray Dozier serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 18th, from 2:00-8:00PM and again on Thursday from 12 Noon till the hour of service.

Mr. Harris was born October 16, 1933 in Cheatham County, Tennessee to the late Roy and Mary Frances Garrett Harris. He worked as a machinist at United Methodist Publishing House where he retired after 25 years of service. He was also a farmer and a member of Sycamore Chapel Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Keith Harris; sister & brother-in-law, Joan and Carl Douglas.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Harris; son, Randall (Deanna) Harris of Ashland City; daughter-in-law, Patti Harris of Ashland City; brother, Terry (Evelyn) Harris of Goodlettsville; grandsons, Murray, Evan, & Austin Harris; and granddaughters, Hailey & Paige Harris. The family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to Edith Traughber and Diane Nash.

Mr. Fraine was born December 5, 1983 in Frankfort, KY. He worked as a diesel mechanic and was a member of The Grove Church.

Mr. Fraine is preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald Shively and his grandmother, Ruby Smith. Mr. Fraine is survived by his wife, Tera Glisson Fraine; son, Brenden Fraine of Springfield; daughters, Addison Fraine, Ella Fraine and Joci Fraine, all of Springfield; father, Craig Fraine; mother and step-father, Lonna Shively (Brian) Boisseau of Frankfort, KY; sister, Jennifer (John) Bondurant of Frankfort, KY; and his mother- and father-in-law, Clay and Valerie Glisson of Springfield.

He was born to the late Sam (Beatrice) Tourkakis and Clara Poierier. He served in the US Air Force during World War II and was honorably discharged when he met and married his late wife Dorothy (Garontakos) Tourkakis January 19, 1946. He later worked until he retired from Western & Southern Life Insurance Company. He and his late wife Dorothy (Garontakos) were married 61 years.

Preceded in death by mother, Clara Poierier; father, Sam (Beatrice) Tourkakis; wife, Dorothy (Garontakos) Tourkakis; daughter, Elaine Tourkakis; great-grandsons, John Michael and Joshua James Peterson; sister, Joanne Krawczyk and brother, Milton Tourkakis. Survived by daughter, Joanna Hodges; son, Spryo Tourkakis; grandchildren, Sandra (Loren) Green, Christina (Jeff) Keith, John Vintzel and Demetra Tourkakis; 5 great-grandchildren, Anthony Davenport, Kayla Keith, Christian Pilgreen, James Green and Camden “Pano” Tourkakis; sister, Helen Hermann; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born August 29, 1938 in Manchester, TN to John and Laura May Hale Pewitt Mayton, Sr. Mr. Mayton proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines and in the Army, where he retired after 20 years of service. He was deployed on one tour of duty to Korea and on two tours of duty to Vietnam. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church.

He is survived by wife, Edna Duncan Mayton, White House, TN; son, Terry (Nurys) Mayton, Portland, TN; daughters, Debra (Dave) Moore, Fayetteville, TN and Stephanie Fox, Spring City, TN; step-sons, Terry (Vickie) Lane, Nashville, TN and Jim (Kim) Mayton Springfield, TN; step-daughter, Debbie Browne, White House, TN; brother, Vernon (Shelby) Mayton, Nashville, TN; sister Clara Mae (Wayne) Clark, Carmack, Illinois; 3 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

He loved sports, shoes and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. If you ever met Justin you knew he had demons. Sometimes we conquer our demons, but other times we are burdened by them. He was full of charisma, love, hopes, dreams, wishes, laughter, and aggravation. If he wasn’t aggravating you something was wrong with him. He wanted to have fun all of the time. His time came too quickly.
