Smokey has confirmed that pre-k students at Jo Byrns Elementary School on Thursday Dec. 6th were exposed momentarily to a pornographic image consisting of a nude woman. According to Jim Bellis the Robertson County PR rep the incident was brief and quickly removed. The Robertson County school system has over 5000 computers in use and takes great care to prevent these kinds of things from happening, said Bellis. All websites are thoroughly screened, we run virus protection and teachers are given strict guidelines on using the Internet. Bellis also said they will be investigating this incident to understand exactly how the image made its way through the firewall to be sure it doesn’t happen again.
Smokey has obtained a copy of the letter sent to parents of the children affected.

Dear Pre-K Parent:
It has come to my attention that an apparent failure of the web-filtering technology occurred inyour child’s pre-k classroom yesterday. This malfunction resulted with an inappropriate image being displayed momentarily.
The teacher was utilizing a website deemed safe and appropriate by the school system. It had been reviewed and utilized by other teachers previously without problem. Our technology department is reviewing the incident to determine the cause and working with our service provider to prevent any reoccurrence.
We certainly regret this situation occurred in your child’s classroom. As always, a safe and healthy learning environment is a top priority and we will work diligently to ensure there is no reoccurrence.
