Local Teen LifeFlighted After Crash On Distillery Rd Sunday

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Robertson County teen was LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville after losing control of his pickup truck and crashing into a tree.

The accident occurred just after 2:00pm Sunday afternoon on Distillery Rd near Woodard Rd. MAP

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver, 18 year old Travis Tamayo, was heading North on Distillery Rd when he drifted onto the shoulder, over-corrected and crashed into a tree.

Tamayo’s legs were pinned and hydraulic equipment had to be used to free him. The extrication process took 15 minutes according to officials with the Greenbrier Fire Department. “His feet were pinned under the dash and pedals,” officials said.

LifeFlight landed near the site but EMS medics determined that the topography was to dangerous to move the driver from that location so LifeFlight was directed to a safer landing site.

Officials said initially that Tamayo’s injuries did not seem to be life threatening. He was awake and talking to medics after the accident. For more information see our video report.

Greenbrier and Springfield Fire departments, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, Robertson County EMA and EMS as well as the Tennessee High Patrol all responded to the scene.

The staff at Smokey Barn News would like to wish the young man a speedy recovery.
