SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Though the official announcement isn’t expected until later, Smokey Barn News has learned that at least three of the five Ace Hardware stores in the Robertson County area that abruptly closed last month will soon reopen, including Springfield, White House and Donelson.

Five Ace Hardware stores in the Robertson County area abruptly closed last month including Springfield, White House, Donelson, Mount Juliet and Hendersonville.

On August 24th Ace Hardware released the following statement about the closings.

“At Ace, we strive to offer our customers the best, most helpful hardware stores on the planet. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience you may have experienced with the unexpected closure of the following five Ace Hardware stores in the greater Nashville area. These five stores have been operated by an independent store owner, we’re working diligently to have them reopened very soon under new ownership.

Outside the official statement, Ace Corporate told Smokey Barn News, “These five stores were operated by an independent store owner who made the decision to close them. We are cooperating with the owner regarding his potential sale and re-opening of the stores.”

On Friday (September 15) sources told Smokey Barn News that we can expect the Springfield, White House and Donelson stores to reopen soon under new ownership.

Customers can also expect to see a few changes when they return, including an all-new layout and even all new inventory.

“We coming back, it’s going to be a bigger better place.”

For fans of the Springfield store, Smokey Barn News has learned that several former employees, including Beverly Butler, will also returning.

UPDATE: ACE Hardware confirms reopenings:

THREE NASHVILLE-AREA ACE HARDWARE STORES WILL OPEN THEIR DOORS UNDER BRAND NEW OWNERSHIP

Oak Brook, Ill., Sept. 18, 2017 – Ace Hardware Corporation, the world’s largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative, is pleased to announce that three previously closed Ace Hardware stores in the greater Nashville area will reopen under brand new ownership in mid-October 2017.

The following three Ace Hardware locations have been purchased by business partners and entrepreneurs Steve Curnutte and Darin Workman.

  • Ace Hardware of Donelson

2730 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, Tenn. 37214 – (615) 232-8253

  • Ace Hardware of Springfield

400 Central Avenue East, Springfield, Tenn. 37172 – (615) 232-8253

  • Ace Hardware of White House

429 Highway 76, White House, Tenn. 37188 – (615) 672-5130

Curnutte and Workman serve as owners and partners of these three Tennessee stores, as well as six Ace Hardware stores throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Curnutte is principal for Tortola Advisors and a resident of Nashville. Workman is President and CEO of the group’s nine stores and is based near Atlanta. Prior to owning Ace Hardware stores, Workman was employed by Ace Hardware Corporation, based in Oak Brook, Ill.

Last month, five area Nashville stores unexpectedly closed their doors, leaving an enormous need in the community,” said Steve Curnutte. “I have lived and worked in the Nashville area for more than 25 years and I love this community – we look forward to rolling up our sleeves and opening some incredible new stores.”

As soon as Curnutte and Workman learned about the closure of these five Tennessee stores, they immediately stepped in to offer support to store employees. For several weeks, the two business partners have been able to employ 16 of the 40 affected associates on continuous payroll, and the duo have plans to hire approximately 33 of the stores’ former employees.

When the Ace Hardware stores of Donelson, Springfield and White House reopen, residents can expect to find completely refreshed stores, the best brands in the industry and award-winning, helpful customer service.

Our new stores will have nearly twice the levels of inventory from the prior owners – we go deep on brands and selection so people can really get what they need,” Darin Workman said. “We want to bring back as many of the same jobs and as many of the same people as we can – shoppers can expect to find many familiar faces.”

The two stores that remain closed are located in Hendersonville and Mount Juliet – they will remain closed as a result of ongoing lease negotiations. Ace Hardware is working diligently to identify opportunities to serve the communities of Hendersonville and Mount Juliet, as quickly as possible. Collectively, the five stores that previously closed were under single ownership by an individual who is no longer affiliated with Ace Hardware.

Curnutte added, “A hardware store is more than a business – it is part of a larger community view – we can’t wait to get these new stores open and start serving again.”
