Rider Killed In Motorcycle Crash In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to officials in Springfield, a motorcyclist has died following an accident on William Batson Parkway Saturday evening, the accident occurring just after 8:00pm. MAP

The call came into 911 at 8:05pm Saturday evening. Springfield Police, Fire and Robertson County EMS responded to the call.

Jamie Fyke EnglandOfficials tell Smokey Barn News that it appears that the rider, identified as Jamie England, 38, of Springfield may not have been wearing a helmet. Investigators said England likely died on impact.

According to police, England was heading towards Tom Austin Hwy on William Batson Parkway when he drifted left on his motorcycle and impacted the center concrete median (or curb) head-on, causing England and the bike to tumble. England and the bike landed in the middle of the road. After a thorough search of the area, no helmet was found.

Officials said no other vehicles were involved but it’s too early in the investigation to have an exact cause of the accident. Police told Smokey Barn News preliminarily that there was no signs of alcohol at the scene and no sign that England tried to stop the bike just before impact, like skid marks. That would lean investigators away from an animal in the road as a cause. Additionally, measurements taken at the scene indicate that speed was not likely a factor either, police said.

Springfield Police have reached out to the THP’s special accident investigation unit to help in gathering some of the numbers in the crash in hopes that will shed some light on what happened.

According to police, the accident was discovered by a passing motorist at 8:05pm, just 5 minutes after England had left a friends house to head home.

William Batson Parkway was closed for several hours while officials conducted their investigation. Springfield accident investigators, with the assistance of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, were on the scene until almost 1:00am Sunday morning.

The thoughts and prayers of the staff at Smokey Barn News are with the family of England as they face his sudden loss.
