Springfield Man Dies In Tractor Accident Christmas Eve 

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  A Springfield man has died following an accident involving a tractor and a motor vehicle. The accident occurred just after 8am Christmas Eve. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is now releasing more information about the crash.

At 8:04am December 24 Robertson County EMS was dispatched to Highway 431 North and Borthick Rd near the state line in response to an accident involving a tractor and a passenger vehicle. MAP

transmission-exchange-300x250Two units from Robertson County EMS along with the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, local law enforcement, North Robertson Fire & Rescue and Logan County, KY EMS all responded to the scene.

According to the THP, a 2014 Nissan, collided with a 1980 Ford 2600 farm tractor.  The THP is calling the accident a rear end type collision in which the driver of the Nissan “failed to yield” to the tractor.

Both vehicles were traveling North on HWY 431 near Borthick Rd. when the collision occurred, according to a THP report obtained by Smokey Barn News. The driver operating the tractor, now identified by the THP as 68 year old Rickey Hutcherson of Springfield, was thrown from the tractor upon impact. His injuries were extremely critical, according to Robertson County EMS Assistant Director Russell Gupton.

Hutcherson was transported by ambulance to Skyline Medical Center. According to Gupton, Hutcherson died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. According to Hutcherson’s online obituary, he died  at Skyline Medical Center later that same day, December 24.

The online obituary for Hutcherson describes him as a “self-employed ‘Jack-of-all-trades,’ a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and of the Baptist faith.”

A Celebration of Life Service was held on December 31, 2016 at Mr. Hutcherson’s home.

The driver of the Nissan was transported by Logan County EMS to an area hospital, reportedly, with non-life threatening injuries. According to the THP, criminal charges are pending.
