The Robertson County Players and Bakari King are announcing they will host a summer theater camp in June for elementary and middle school students. The theater camp will be known as “The Robertson County Players and King’s Kids Summer Theater Camp” which will be held at Springfield High School in Springfield. The camp dates are June 9 – 13. Those eligible for camp are 1st grade thru 8th grade students and the hours are from 9 am – 3 pm. The cost per student will be $100 for the week.

headshot2Nashville actor, singer, director and choreographer Bakari King who teaches Middle School Theater at the University School of Nashville will serve as the camp director. He will also serve as the director and choreographer for the Players summer musical Ragtime in July.

King said recently, “I am really excited about this opportunity to join forces with the Players to bring a full scale summer theater camp to teach the many skill sets of performing before a live audience. Being a teacher and performer myself, I know how important the theater arts are to help broaden our young peoples lives.

King went on to say, “we plan to teach our students what goes on behind the scenes of theater, from making costumes, to learning choreography to building sets and scenery and of course acting and singing on stage.

Robinette Summer ad 300Players spokesperson Danny Atchley said, “the RCP have wanted to host a theater camp for students since our earliest days of being a community theater. It wasn’t until we hit on the idea of enlisting Bakari as our camp director with all of his passion, ability and technical skill for theater that we realized we had the perfect person to make this dream a reality. This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn from one of the most talented performers and theater teachers in Middle Tennessee.

On the last night of the theater camp on Friday, June 13 at 7 pm at the Springfield High School Auditorium we plan to have a original musical performance of “Dive Into Disney” which will be performed by the students that will include songs from Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh and The Little Mermaid. This will be open to parents and also to the general public.
