T.H.P. Combines Seat Belt Safety With Ice-Cream

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and the Greenbrier Police Department were at Greenbrier Elementary School on Thursday to promote seat-belt and child restraint safety.

IMG_8946State troopers and local law enforcement officers walked along the vehicles as parents came to pick up their children. The goal was to ensure that seat belts were buckled and child restraint devices were installed and utilized properly.

Police issued safety literature but handed out no tickets. This program is about education, not tickets, said Tennessee Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Lieutenant Bill Miller.

The ultimate goal of the program is to save lives and it’s information that accomplishes that, Miller said.

Fatal accidents occur almost every week in the area Bill covers in his job as PIO.  Needless to say, Bill, the THP and all law enforcement officers would like to see the number of fatal wrecks decline.

Along with the literature about safety the officers handed out to parents was a coupon for some free ice-cream, the children loved it.  As you can see in the photos, the children also enjoyed seeing the officers and many even asked to have their pictures taken with them.
