UPDATE: Thursday June 16--> The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the resident of the home that was killed in yesterday’s gun fight, he is identified as 62 year old Marty Dale Hall.  Sumner County Sheriff Sonny Weatherford told Smokey Barn News that Hall always had two handguns on him in back holsters and in the gun battle Hall managed to fire off one entire clip from one of the guns and had the other gun out of the holster. Between the two men police estimate that 15 rounds were fired in the gun fight.

COTTONTOWN TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Sumner County Sheriff’s department is currently investigating the deaths of two men at a home located in the 2800 block of Hwy 25 in Cottontown, according to Sumner County Sheriff Sonny Weatherford.

The home is located near the intersection of Hwy 25 and Halltown Rd/W Hester Rd. MAP

Carl Hargis, a neighbor and friend to the woman that discovered the bodies and called 911 told Smokey Barn News the woman (who lives directly across the street) headed over to play a game of cards with her friend who drives an 18 wheeler.  As she approached the home she noticed the back door had been kicked in and saw what she believed was the homeowner and another man lying on the floor inside the home, she immediately called police, Hargis said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called to assist in the investigation.

Sheriff Weatherford told Smokey Barn News this afternoon that the investigation will likely go well into the evening and Hwy 25 will be closed near Halltown Rd until it is complete.

UDDATE: Sheriff Weatherford reached out to Smokey Barn News this evening with an update in the investigation. The information provided by Carl Hargis lines up perfectly with what we learned from Sheriff Weatherford and it appears that the one of the men is the bank robber from Kentucky.

Sheriff Weatherford told Smokey Barn news that at 5:14pm Wednesday night deputies responded to an address on hwy 25 in Cottontown for a report of two persons killed.

When deputies arrived they found that the homeowner (an overnight truck driver) had arrived home and had been shot. A neighbor reported hearing what they thought were fireworks going off sometime around noon.  Later this afternoon she went by to check on the neighbor. When she arrived she found two people who were deceased inside the home.

Deputies found what appeared to be an apparent gun battle  that happened inside the residence between an apparent burglar and the homeowner. Preliminary reports indicate that the burglar has now been identified by the Bowling Green Police department as the man who robbed the bank yesterday inside their city.

Were still not able to get a positive ID  due to the fact that the equipment brought in by the TBI is not reading his fingerprints for some reason so it will probably be tomorrow before we can identify him by name.

We have been able to identify him by some of the tattoos that were on him. So we are pretty sure of who it is but we are going to wait for an official ID in the morning.

As of 12:AM the street is still blocked and they are still working the crime scene. The bodies still have not been moved. They are using equipment that takes measurements of the room and where the bodies are located for reconstruction purposes.

As soon as police officially release the identity of both men we will bring it to you.
