Teen Fights For Life Following Springfield Shooting 

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Wednesday around 3:23pm, a 16 year old male arrived at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield with a gun shot wound to the neck.

UPDATE: Police are now releasing the names of the two suspects in the armed robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon. According to Springfield Police Detective Chuck Bogle, Daveion Johnson, 18, of Springfield was the alleged gunman and Timontreous Barbee, 20, also of Springfield was his alleged accomplice.

Daveion Johnson as he was being transferred to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield Wednesday evening.

Detective Bogle told Smokey Barn News that Johnson and Barbee were in the back seat of the vehicle driven by the victims friend after the two were picked up near Rudolph St. MAP Detective Bogle said that after reaching Dimaggio Drive, Johnson and Barbee attempted the alleged robbery.

Detective Bogle said he believes that the victim, sitting in the front passenger seat, was shot as he was handing over about $400 to Johnson and that’s when Johnson is alleged to have pulled the trigger hitting the victim in the back of the neck.  Bogle believes that the victim may have been shot because he resisted.

Bogle told Smokey Barn News that the victim is doing better and he was optimistic about his recovery.

Smokey Barn News will not be releasing the names of the victim because he is a minor or the name of his friend since that could lead to the identity of the victim.

Timontreous Martel Barbee

Both subjects have been charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Criminal Homicide and Especially Aggravated Robbery. Both subjects are being held at the Robertson County Sheriffs Department without bond.

According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, the 16 year old was transferred via LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. The teens condition was considered serious and the wound life threatening at that time. According to Chief Thompson, the bullet penetrated the back of the victim’s neck at the base of the skull.

Preliminarily, Springfield Police believed that the shooting resulted from a robbery attempt in the 100 block of  Dimaggio Drive in Springfield. MAP “Two suspects attempted to rob the victim and the victim’s friend, and one suspect shot the victim. The victim’s friend and the victim drove to NorthCrest,” according to Chief Thompson.

Chief Thompson told Smokey Barn News that the victim and his friend were in a parked vehicle when the two suspects approached the vehicle and attempted the robbery. After the shooting the two suspects fled on foot.

Thompson said that the victim, his friend and both suspects are all acquainted and all are either teenagers or in their early 20’s.

Springfield police had both suspects in custody within hours of the shooting and both were questioned at the Springfield Police Department. According to Thompson, of the two suspects, initially one was questioned as the potential alleged shooter.  As far as the second suspect, detectives were trying to determine if he was an accomplice or a witness, after questioning he was also charged.
