The Game 35 Years In The Making At Springfield High

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – As good as the football team may be at Springfield High there’s one thing they haven’t had in 35 years, a home game.

In the early 80’s Springfield High was moved from it’s old location on 5th to it’s current location on Hwy 76. Unfortunately the football field stayed behind and Springfield High has been without a field ever since.

That will all end when the Springfield High Football team goes head-to-head with Clarksville on August 25th next year. It will be the team’s first home game on a brand new field built right behind the school.  The last time Springfield High had a home game, cell phones weighed five pounds and Reagan was president.

The plans for a field go back some years but it took a nudge from the D.O.J. and a very generous land donation from Walter Mccauley to make all the pieces come together. A bond will pay for the construction of the field.

This afternoon the Springfield Football team along with city and county officials, coaches, teachers and members of the media met at the site for an official ground breaking.
