THP: Safety-Belt Saved Driver’s Life In Rollover Crash
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – A rollover crash on Hwy 161 Saturday morning left a pickup truck almost unrecognizable but the driver walked away without serious injury away because, according to the THP, he was wearing his seat-belt.
The crash occurred on Hwy 161 near Corbin Creek Greenhouse just before 7am Saturday morning. (Location of crash) According to the THP at the scene, the 23 year old driver from Goodlettsville said he fell a sleep at the wheel.
The accident occurred in a bend on Hwy 161. It appeared that as the roadway curved to the left, the vehicle went straight. The vehicle left the roadway onto the right shoulder and struck an embankment that sent the Ford Ranger XLT tumbling.
Robertson County EMS and North Robertson Fire & Rescue responded quickly and found the driver was in such good shape he declined medical treatment.
According to the THP, the driver said he was working two jobs. He had left one job, got some sleep, and was on the way to the next. That’s when he fell asleep.
The THP also said that drugs or alcohol were not being considered factors in the accident. Smokey Barn News was privileged to witness the THP consoling the driver. A little humor and kindness from the Trooper seem to lighten the mood of the shaken driver.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has put a lot of time into trying to convince the public to buckle-up behind the wheel. Responding to hundreds of wrecks each year they know first-hand the importance of being properly restrained in a vehicle.
After looking over what was left of the vehicle and the severity of the crash this morning, the THP accident investigator said the driver survived because the seat-belt held him in place as the truck tumbled and rolled.
North Robertson Fire & Rescue, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and Robertson County EMS all responded to the call.
