Two Springfield Men Indicted In Murder Of Brandon Gardner

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Monday November 10, 2014, officers were dispatched to the area of South Main St. and 18th Ave East in reference to multiple gunshots.
When officers arrived on the scene, Brandon Gardner, 27, of Springfield, Tennessee was found lying on the ground and a citizen was performing CPR on him.
Gardner was transported by ambulance to NorthCrest Medical where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that an unknown make and model vehicle drove by and started shooting. Officers were also dispatched to NorthCrest Medical Center in reference to a male arriving by a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The male was identified as Mandrekus Young age 21 also of Springfield. Young was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN with non-life threatening injuries.
In conducting an investigation, Detective Rickie Morris of the Springfield Police Department through evidence and witness statements developed Wyatt Cragin age 19 and Travis Wilkerson age 20 both of Springfield, TN as suspects in the case.
The case was presented to the Robertson County Grand Jury and both were indicted for 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault.
On Thursday March 5, 2015 Cragin was taken into custody during a vehicle stop by Detective Morris and Narcotics Agent Eddy Stewart.
Wilkerson was already in the Robertson County Detention Center on a Probation Violation and current charges.
Bond was set on each suspect at $200,000.00.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

SPRINGFIELD: Two Shot, One Dead In Drive By Shooting Monday Night
Back on November 10th 1014 two people were shot in Springfield and one man died in what police are calling a drive by shooting.. Police responded to a report of gunshots at the intersection of East 18th Ave and South Main St (location of shooting) around 8:00PM.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that an unknown make and model vehicle drove by and started shooting.
When police arrived they found a man on the ground and a courageous citizen performing C.P.R. The man, identified as Brandon Lamont Gardner, 30, of Springfield was transported to Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield where he was pronounced dead.
A second victim was also shot. Officers were dispatched to Northcrest Medical Center around the same time in reference to a male arriving by a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg. The man was identified as Mandrekus Young age 21 of Springfield. Young was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville with non-life threatening injuries. Police have not indicated how, why or if Young’s shooting is connected to the incident on Main St. due to the ongoing investigation.
Police were investigating two locations in relation to the shooting Monday evening. The primary location seemed to be at East 18th Ave and South Main. Police were collecting shell casings in the street and examining a home for bullet fragments lodged 
in the front of the home. Police had the entire intersection taped off and Main St closed for about two hours as they investigated the scene.
The second location was on Short Cheatham St. At that location police were investigating a vehicle that clearly had multiple bullet holes on the drivers side and all four tires were flat.
Back on May 11, Brandon Gardner, a father of five, was shot and drove himself to the hospital. He had been shot multiple times in the chest, arms, legs and groin, he survived.

I don’t get it, here’s this relativly small town, totally surrounded by farm land, and miles away from all of the criminals in Nashville, yet the crime rate here rivals Memphis. Furthermore, Springfield doesn’t have a close interstate entrance where criminals could quickly get away from the area after committing a crime and yet these things keep on happening, and according to Federal statistics, they happen with considerably more frequency per capita than other Middle Tenn. towns and cities. This isn’t the fault of the street cops and it’s probably not the fault of the police chief either but it seems that some people in the power structure here are afraid to do what it takes to make Springfield a place where criminals that aren’t already in jail are afraid to do what they do. This wouldn’t take much more money but it would take WILL, and laser like focus, regardless of who didn’t like the methods required. Former N.Y. Mayor Jiuliani’s “Broken Windows Theory” is the method that would work to clean up the crime in Springfield but, because of the fear of “offending” certain people, that proven method of fighting crime will never happen here.
Its a shame that three people will probably lose their lives over something senseless
