Two Survive Horrific Wreck In Springfield On Kinneys Rd
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A nine year old girl and a 42 year old woman from Cedar Hill have defied the odds and survived an accident that could have easily taken both their lives.
It took firefighters from North Robertson Fire and Rescue and Springfield about an hour to free the two from the vehicle. The vehicle had left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and inverted before becoming wedged between several trees.
The accident occurred just before 11:30 Saturday morning on Kinneys Rd near Mathews Rd which sits at the halfway point between Cedar Hill and Springfield. (Location of wreck)
According to Fire Chief Chad Gregory with North Robertson Fire and Rescue, the 9 year old girl was removed from the vehicle fairly quickly, however it would take the better part of an hour to free the woman who spent most of the extrication upside-down pinned inside the vehicle.
Both were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, the girl by ground and the adult female by Lifeflight. The decision to lifeflight her was based on the lengthy extraction and the fact that she was inverted for so long.
Smokey Barn News interviewed officials about the condition of the occupants, but after the vehicle was moved up to the road where we could survey the damage to the vehicle we felt compelled to ask again.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 9 year old girl said there was an animal in the road and they swerved to avoid it causing the accident. The THP wanted us to remind drivers that deer are prevalent in the Robertson County area and even more so this time of year when the temperatures begin to climb.
The THP recommends that you drive with caution and keep your eyes out for deer that will leap onto the roadway anytime of the day or night.
According to the THP, both occupants were wearing their safety-belts which likely saved their lives.
