White House Braces For American Idol Friday

Originally from White House Tennessee, Clark Beckham advanced to the next round of finalists on American Idol Wednesday night and the City of White House, and the Mr Tom piano 300White House Chamber of Commerce will be partnering to welcome Clark home for an official visit this Friday (May 1, 2015).

White House is preparing for what could be the largest event they have ever hosted. With only days to put it all together, White House officials are preparing to host as many as 20,000 people Friday afternoon and they are working hard to be sure the event is safe and fun for everyone.

If you are planning on attending the event on Friday Smokey has put together the schedule of events as well as some navigational tips to help you make your way around the event with as few headaches as possible.

Below is the schedule for Friday, May 1…
  • A welcoming parade beginning at West Drive (Heritage Elementary School) to Stadium Drive (White House City Park) at 5 p.m. Route Map.  The parade will feature representatives of White House High School, White House Heritage High School, The Boy Scouts of America, Christian Community School, and other community representatives.
  • A presentation and concert at Dewey H. Whitson Stadium at White House City Park at 6:00/6:30 p.m. (flexible depending on timing of the parade and crowd movement). Clark will be presented with a key to the city from Mayor Mike Arnold, and perform with special surprise guests on the 50-yard-line of the football stadium. Admission is free to both events and open to the general public.
  • All sports activities at White House City Park have been postponed Friday night to accommodate parking and the expected attendance of 5,000-10,000 people.

clarkNOTE: Please be advised that traffic along Highway 76 off exit 108 from Interstate 65 is expected to be very difficult to navigate after 4 p.m. Consider alternate routes, including exits at Millersville (Exit 98, Highway 31-W North), Ridgetop (Exit 104, Bethel Rd. to Highway 31-W north) and Cross Plains (Exit 112, Highway 25 east to Highway 31-W south) to access the city.

Be prepared to do a fair amount of walking after parking in local retail or shopping centers adjacent to the city park.

Smokey’s best recommendation: Don’t wait until the last minute if you plan on attending the parade and following concert, show up early and be prepared to do a little walking and after the event be prepared to navigate heavy traffic.

Concessions will be available  at the the top of the field and at the regular Concession stand at the city park. Some of the items available will be hamburgers, nachos and drinks. A portion of the proceeds will go to Clark’s mission which is the Nashville rescue mission.

Officials told Smokey that alcohol will not be permitted at the event or on city property.

SCHOOL CLOSURES:

All three Robertson County schools in White House will close at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, May 1, due to anticipated traffic congestion related to American Idol contestant Clark Beckham’s scheduled parade and concert. White House city officials have said they expect up to 10,000 people to attend the two events and anticipate that traffic will be a major issue.

As a result of their request, Robertson County Schools will be closing White House Heritage High School, Robert F. Woodall Elementary School, and White House Heritage Elementary School just prior to midday in order to allow our buses and parents to safely transport students home. Please note that buses will run their schedules in accordance with the 11:15 a.m. dismissal time.
