White House Sonic Temporarily Closed After Car Hits Building

WHITE HOUSE (Smokey Barn News) The White House codes department has closed the Sonic Drive-In restaurant in White House after a customer’s vehicle struck the building causing structural damage. The accident occurred around 1:30pm. The restaurant is located on Highway 76 near the White House Greenway. MAP

pic1According to several reports, a vehicle lurched forward and bumped the building with just enough force to cause damage to a load bearing member of the Sonic restaurant.

The damage to the vehicle was minor and it was still driveable after the accident. No one was injured in the accident but the codes department felt the damage to the building was enough to need repairing.

Smokey Barn News spoke to Shift Supervisor Rick Hunter, who told us they are working hard to have a temporary fix in place soon. Engineers currently working on the problem estimate that the restaurant should be able to reopen by 8:00pm.

The damage to the outside of the  structure appears to be superficial, however the damage to the inside is more significant Hunter said.
