Teacher Suspended After Alleged Snapchat With Student

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  A White House Heritage High School Teacher has been placed on an unpaid suspension by Robertson County Schools pending the outcome of a police investigation revolving around his use of Snapchat with a 14-15 year old student.

According to White House Police Chief Pat Brady, on December 8 White House Police received an anonymous phone call about a teacher at White House Heritage High School, identified as David Deforest, 36, of Springfield, who allegedly “sent an inappropriate picture  to a 14/15-year-old female student,” according to a police report obtained by Smokey Barn News.

Both the student and the teacher were interviewed at the school and both phones were taken into evidence, the report stated.

According to Chief Brady, detectives are looking to determine if any laws were broken.  Brady said that Deforest admitted to sending a photo via Snapchat to the student but detectives are still trying to confirm the content of the photo. “We do not know at this time if the picture that was sent will rise to the level of being illegal,” Brady said. “The investigation is still ongoing.”

According to Robertson County Schools PIO Jim Bellis, Deforest’s unpaid suspension is pending the outcome of both the White House Police investigation and the school district’s own internal investigation.

According to Wikipedia “The idea (with Snapchat) was to create a selfie app (application) which allowed users to share images that were explicitly short-lived and self-deleting.” MORE

UPDATE: January 11 2017

According to Robertson County Schools PIO Jim Bellis, Deforest resigned his teaching position at White House Heritage High School on December 14, 2016.

According to White House Police Chief Pat Brady, the investigation is still ongoing.

No one has been charged at this point.
