30 Day Traffic Headache Expected As Tom Austin Project Reaches Memorial Blvd

Four Week Lane Closure Scheduled For The Widening of Memorial Blvd

UPDATE: 431/Memorial Roadway Project To Halt For Eclipse/Fair Thanks To Legislators Roberts/Kumar FULL STORY

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Tom Austin Hwy widening project in Springfield expected to cause heavy traffic issues on Memorial Blvd for about 30 days starting in August 14th as the project reaches the Tom Austin Hwy Memorial Blvd intersection.

The construction will widen Memorial Blvd at the Tom Austin Hwy intersection and will begin on the week of August 14, 2017.

“We will be adding an additional 12’ of full depth pavement, C&G, sidewalk, and new traffic signals. This work will be continuous until completion. It will take approximately 4 weeks to complete this phase of work,” according to a TDOT release.

To complete this work, Memorial Blvd will go from five lanes down to three as drivers approach Tom Austin Hwy. There will be one thru lane in each direction and a shared turn lane. This section of road will be restriped to accommodate the new traffic signal layout and will be marked with construction barrels. However, TDOT says drivers should expect major delays and motorists are highly encouraged to seek an alternate route if all possible.

The upcoming eclipses and the predicted influx of traffic on August 21 will likely magnify traffic issues near the intersection. Smokey Barn News has reached out to TDOT on this matter, as soon as we receive a response we will bring it to you.
