431/Memorial Roadway Project To Halt For Eclipse/Fair Thanks To Legislators Roberts/Kumar

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Given the influx of people expected in Robertson County for the solar eclipse and the fact that the Robertson County Fair along with the Fair parade land on the same day, officials are expecting traffic congestion. Officials became concerned that reducing Memorial Blvd to just three lanes for planed roadwork that day could cause gridlock. FULL STORY

With that thought in mind, Senator Kerry Roberts and Representative Sabi Kumar reached out to TDOT and today announced that lane closures at Memorial Boulevard and Tom Austin Highway will be Delayed Until after the eclipse on August 22, 2017.

“Dr. Kumar and I contacted TDOT after several community leaders voiced their concern over lane closures during the day of the eclipse, which is also the day the Robertson County Fair kicks off,”  Senator Roberts told Smokey Barn News. “We commend TDOT for immediately contacting their contractors and resetting the schedule.”

Community leaders expressed concern that lane closures on Memorial Blvd at Tom Austin Hwy, originally scheduled to begin August 14, 2017, would create serious traffic problems on Monday, August 21st, for the eclipse and the Robertson County Fair parade and grand opening – as several thousand visitors are expected on Monday, August 21st.

Roberts further added that there may be some preliminary work during the week of August 14th, but it will be suspended Saturday through Monday, August 19th through August 21st.

Representative Sabi Kumar represents Robertson County. Senator Kerry Roberts represents Robertson, Cheatham, Dickson, Hickman, and Humphreys counties.

FAIR PARADE:

After the eclipse at 5PM the annual RC Fair parade will kick off the 150th Anniversary of the Robertson County Fair 2017 along Memorial Blvd in Springfield.

The contestants and winners of this years 2017 Fairest of the Fair and the Baby Show will be featured in the parade. The Carnival gates will open immediately following the parade.
