88 Mile An Hour Speeding Ticket Leads To $30k Drug Arrest

MILLERSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Using radar on Interstate 65, Millersville Police clocked a vehicle going “88 miles an hour.” After seeing police lights in the rear-view mirror, the driver pulled over at the 102 mile marker. After the vehicle stopped, the passenger fled on foot into a wooded area.

After the passenger fled, the officer conducting the traffic stop decided to stay with the driver (who did not run) and called for back up. Backup arrived and officers
began following the very visible trail that the fast moving passenger left behind in the tall grass and trees. “The trail was very easy to follow,” said Millersville Police Chief David Hindman. Officers followed the passenger’s trail for some ways before ending up in the back yard of a home located on Slaters Creek Access Rd. After looking around for a few minutes, police realized that they were surrounded by marijuana plants.

The plants were all in plain view in the back yard,” Hindman said. “The house was very secluded, the perfect hiding spot.”

Police don’t believe the fleeing passenger  from the traffic stop had any connection to the marijuana plants. “It was just a coincidence,” Hindman said.

After realizing they had just stumbled onto thousands of dollars worth of marijuana, Millersville Police obtained a search warrant for the home. Inside the home they found weapons, scales and a small amount of drugs, Hindman said. The grower will face charges of Possession of Schedule 6 for manufacture and resale, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

If the State of Tennessee and the D.A. will let us, we will be trying to seize the home,” Hindman said.

The suspect grower was taken into custody late Monday. The fleeing passenger is still on the run, he is described as a white male in his late 20’s about  5’9 wearing a white t-shirt blue jean shorts and tennis shoes.

Estimated value of the marijuana plants seized, about $30,000.

As far as the original traffic stop for 88 miles an hour, police said no Flux Capacitor was found in the vehicle.

The original driver was sited for going eighty eight in a seventy and allowed to continue.

Anyone with any information about either of these crimes is encouraged to contact Millersville Police at (615)859-2758.
