Another 3-5″ Of Rain Expected, Severe Weather Late Saturday Afternoon/Evening

ROBERTSON COUNTY/MIDDLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Another FLASH FLOOD WATCH is now in effect for all of Middle Tennessee from Thursday night through Saturday night which will likely lead to more flooding. An additional 3-5 inches of rain with locally higher amounts are expected through Saturday night. Due to the recent excessive rain, soils are saturated and area rivers and creeks are full. Additional heavy rainfall will quickly cause flash flooding.

What to Expect

• 1 to 3 more inches of rain (and potentially more) tonight and tomorrow. More flooding, some of which could be more drastic than what was seen yesterday
• 1 to 2 more inches Saturday, which means continued flooding
• Severe weather threat late Saturday afternoon and evening
• Don’t forget the river flooding issues we’re likely to have during and after these events.

A message from the City of Springfield, TN – Government:

GREENWAY ANNOUNCEMENT: The section of the greenway between Legion Field and Travis Price Park remains CLOSED for weather-related maintenance. All other sections of the greenway have reopened! We apologize for any inconvenience.

Turn Around Don’t Drown – See VIDEO Below

“There could be concerns that some area roadways, especially secondary ones, at particular locations could be covered with unknown depth of water. We have a saying here at the National Weather Service (NWS) Office in Nashville concerning this: When Flooded Turn Around Don’t Drown. It is very important to remember that to never drive around the barriers blocking a flooded road! The road may have collapsed under that water. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars and just 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters!”
