BREAKING: Car-Train Collision In Greenbrier

STORY UPDATED

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Emergency Crews responded to a car-train collision at Old Greenbrier Pike by the Louise Martin Ball-Park at the Industrial Dr crossing (MAP)  around 2:30 this afternoon.

A young couple driving a Pontiac was struck by the train as they crossed the tracks hitting the driver side rear door which spun the car around and tossed it into the ditch. The driver indicated that she did not see the flashing railroad lights at the intersection or hear the train approaching, police said.

Fortunately, neither the driver or the single occupant sustained serious injuries.

Police did issue a citation to the driver for driving with a suspended license and failing to obey the railroad crossing signal. The driver was also cited for not having insurance.

The couple told Smokey Barn News that normally they would of had their children in the car with them but at the last minute they had made other arrangements to have them picked up from school.

This is the second vehicle to be hit by a train in less than a week on the same stretch of track. On Monday a pickup truck was hit by a train at the Experiment Station Rd / Hwy 41 crossing. FULL STORY

Fortunately no one was injured in either accident but today’s accident had Greenbrier Police Chief, Kenneth “KD” Smith saying more Rail Road crossing arms are needed.

“We have more trains coming through more frequently, Chief Smith told Smokey Barn News,  “We’re going to be meeting with CSX officials next week to go over accident and tickets.” The goal will be to get more crossing arms, Smith said.
