Fatal Accident On Hwy 76 Takes One Life Early Saturday Morning

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An overnight crash on Hwy 76 has claimed one life, according to officials.

The crash occurred around 1:30 am Saturday morning on Hwy 76 near Savage Creek Drive. Savage Creek Drive sits just outside of White House. LOCATION OF CRASH

Officials tell Smokey Barn News that the vehicle, a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, (right-hand-drive) left the roadway in a curve on the Springfield side of Savage Creek Drive and impacted a tree. The driver, identified as Jaime Payne, 25, of Springfield, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to Robertson County EMS, Payne was transferred to the center for forensic medicine in Nashville where an autopsy will be performed.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, according to their preliminary description of the crash, Payne was traveling West on Hwy 76 near Savage Creek Dr. when she ran off the right side of the road, entered a ditch and struck a tree.

There was no mention of drugs or alcohol in the report and, according to the investigator, Payne was wearing her safety belt.

The Cross Plains Fire Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Robertson County EMS, and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the call.
