Northcrest doctors 300A three car accident involving multiple patients has occurred on I-65 southbound at mile marker 110 around 2pm Thursday afternoon. White House City Fire, Orlinda, Fire, Cross Plains Fire, EMS & EMA responded along with the THP Critical Response Team and Lifeflight helicopters. I-65 was closed for several hours.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed one fatality. At this point the THP is not completely sure how many people were in the vehicles. It could be 6 or 7 people total.  At least five patients, two by Life Flight, were transported to area hospitals according to Sgt. Bill Miller.

We have also been informed that two area firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.

According to THP a white Taurus (showed upside down) was traveling northbound and came across the median impacting a Kia Serento and then struck a  Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling southbound head-on. The third vehicle (jeep) which is still on its wheels driven by Barbara Garrett of Goodlettsville and her husband said one of the vehicles momentarily landed on the their hood; her husband broke his leg and was transported to Vanderbilt.

According to Sgt. Bill Miller  spokesman for the THP the people in the Taurus are from the Sumner County/Westmoreland area and the people in the Kia Sorento are from Kentucky.

Smokey has reported from the beginning that there has been only one fatality. We again have confirmed with THP and Vanderbilt  the second individual (passenger of the Taurus) initially reported to be deceased was critically injured but is still alive.

I-65 is now open and traffic is moving. (7:40pm)

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those involved in this horrific accident.
