Fatal Crash Closes Hwy 49 Near Coopertown

Hwy 49 Near Coopertown Re-Opens Following Fatal Crash

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Hwy 49 near Coopertown was closed for about two hours Wednesday evening following a crash that took one life.

The crash occurred around 9 pm just outside Coopertown on Hwy 49 not far from I24.  MAP

The crash involved a 2004 Buick LeSabre and a 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. According to Coopertown Mayor Glen Guyor, the motorcyclist, 63-year-old David Nicholson of Pleasant View Tennessee, did not survive.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, preliminarily, the crash was a rear-end type collision, the LeSabre striking the motorcyclist from behind after the rider had reduced speed. Both vehicles were traveling South on Hwy 49 West. After impact, the motorcyclist slid off the right side of the roadway and into a yard. The LeSabre slid off the right side of the roadway traveling several hundred feet before striking a tree.

After the crash, the driver of the LeSabre, 66-year-old Ricky Hutson of Pleasant View Tennessee, was pinned in the vehicle and required extraction.  He was transported to NorthChrest Medical Center in Springfield in stable condition.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol closed Hwy 49 for several hours while they investigated the crash.

Nicholson’s family reached out to Smokey Barn News,  they tell us that Nicholson was coming home from church and had slowed down to turn into his own driveway when the accident occurred.  The yard he died in was his own.

Memorial service for David will be on April, 13th from 3:00 – 4:30 at the Covenant Confirmers Church in Springfield Tn.

The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS, the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office are currently working the crash.
