Firefighters Battle Portland House Fire In Soaring Temperatures

PORTLAND TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Firefighters from five agencies have been called to a house fire in Portland due to soaring temperatures as Robertson County faces a heatwave.

The 1800 square foot home, located on Brooks Rd MAP, was already fully engulfed in flames when the first teams arrived. The first call went out just before 3pm.

Firefighters from, Highland, Gallatin, Mitchellville, Oak Grove and Cottontown Volunteer Fire Departments have been called to the scene due to the heat. More firefighters mean you can rotate them out faster.

Sumner EMS and the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department are also on scene.

Rehab 83 has also responded. Rehab 83 provides a lifeline of services to firefighters as they battle the fire and heat exhaustion.

The physical stress Firefighters encounter can push their bodies to the limit, especially in today’s heat. Teams of Firefighters are rotated in and out of a fire area to give them time to recover. That recovery can include water, shade or something as simple as a chair. That’s where Rehab 83 steps in to fill the void.  Rehab 83 is looking for volunteers. For more info on Rehab 83 click here.

From reports, the fire was called in by a neighbor and no one was home. No injuries have been reported. A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
