SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – – The Robertson County Detention Facility hosted a ceremony for graduates of the GED program on August 6th. Nine students participated in the graduation marking their accomplishment in a formal ceremony. Workforce Essentials staff and Sheriff Bill Holt presented the students with their diplomas, and the graduates also heard congratulatory addresses from Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley, State Senator Kerry Roberts, and State Representative Sabi Kumar.

The GED program at the detention facility is achieved through a partnership between Workforce Essentials, the State of Tennessee Department of Labor, and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office. Students must meet certain criteria to enter and remain in the program. A total of forty-six students have earned their diploma since the program began in 2012.

This is a tough program that gives these students the foundation to build a career when they leave our facility,” said Sheriff Bill Holt. “We congratulate these students for taking the initiative to better themselves. Earning this diploma enables them to enter the workforce and opens doors to better jobs that previously were not available to them.”

We are glad to be partners with Workforce Essentials, and we all believe this program makes our community better,” Sheriff Holt added.

This year’s ceremony was the second graduation ceremony held at the detention facility since the program began.
