Greenbrier Man Arrested After Fleeing Police/Crashing Into His Home

Story updated

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Greenbrier man is in custody Saturday evening after police say he fled in his work truck, crashed into his home and attempted to flee on foot.

A Greenbrier Police officer, on routine patrol, was traveling South On Old Greenbrier Pike just after 7:p.m. when he spotted a pickup truck traveling North at a high rate of speed, according to Greenbrier police Lt. Todd Dorris with the Greenbrier Police Department.

According to Dorris, as Greenbrier Police officer Daniel Consiglio attempted to turn around to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, even before Consiglio activated his lights.

Officer Consiglio lost sight of the vehicle until reaching the intersection of East South Street and Old Greenbrier Pike when he spotted the vehicle which had crashed into a home located on the corner and was on fire. The vehicle also struck a fire hydrant. MAP

BrownLt. Dorris told Smokey Barn News that the driver, Robert A. Brown, 45, of Greenbrier, took off running but was apprehend about 30 feet from the truck in the yard of the home of the accident.

Brown was taken into custody under suspicion of DUI (a charge officials later decided not to pursue, according to Greenbrier Police Chief K.D Smith) and may face charges relating to leaving the scene of an accident and evading, Dorris said.

As of Sunday, Brown has been charged with: Driving On Revoked/suspended License, Reckless Driving, Schedule I-VII Drug Violations and Vandalism.

The home where the accident took place is currently being rented by Brown. The pickup truck is owned by Jeff DeLong Repair Service, an appliance repair company owned by Greenbrier Alderman Jeff DeLong.

Brown was transported to NorthCrest Medical Center with minor injuries and then transported to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield.

As far as damage to the home, the pickup impacted the home reinforced brick porch so there was minimal damage to the home. DeLong arrived at the scene to collect what was left of his pickup truck, which will most likely be a total loss.
