Head On Collision Closes Hwy 76 Sunday Evening
WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A head on collision on Highway 76 near Maxie Jones Road has closed Highway 76. The accident occurred around 7:45 this evening. It may remain closed for another two hours while crews clean up the scene. Multiple patients, as many as five were transported to area hospitals and at least one person was lifeflighted. If at all possible, please try to avoid using highway 76 for the next two hours.
UPDATE: 9:40PM There were a total of 6 people transported and one or two children. One person was lifeflighted however, according to Cross Plains Fire, though one patient was in serious condition all are expected to recover.
The THP has completed their on scene investigation and the vehicles are being removed from the roadway. The road should be open by 10:00PM.
UPDATE 11:30PM
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Miller., the 2004 Dodge Durango driven by Tiffany Luoma, 39, of Greenbrier was headed west on Hwy 76 when the vehicle crossed over the center line. The Dodge Durango then hit Emily Prentice, 26, of White House head on as she was driving her 2003 GMC Yukon. There were also two minors in the Youkon, an 8 year old and a 5 year old. Both were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville via ground. The cause of the crash is not yet known.
Tiffany Luoma was lifeflighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center with unknown injuries. Jeremy Luoma, 37, of Greenbrier and one 14 year old minor was also riding in the Dodge Durango. Jeremy was transported to Skyline Medical Center via ground and the 14 year old was transported to Vanderbilt via ground.
Smokey is not going to release the names of the juveniles.
Emily Prentice suffered only minor injuries and was not transported, Miller said.
Both Tiffany and Jeremy were not wearing their seatbelts. Investigators are still trying to determine if the children were wearing seatbelts. The report also indicated that Tiffany Luoma was being charged for not wearing her seatbelt, no insurance, failure to exercise due care.
Smokey’s thoughts and prayers are with both families as they face the next days and weeks ahead.
