House Sized AC Unit Falls Off Semi – Stalls Memorial Traffic

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –Memorial Blvd was brought to a crawl in Springfield Thursday evening after a large part for an industrial air-conditioning system fell off the back of a semi on Memorial Blvd.  (Location of wreck)  It took crews about an hour to get the large industrial unit, which was almost as big as a house, back on the rig. The large unit is a cooling tower and it was on its way to the Robertson County office building where a crane is waiting to lift it into position.

According to reports at the scene, the rig pulled into the Center Stage Shopping center on Memorial Blvd to turn around. As the rig was pulling back onto Memorial Blvd the large industrial AC unit snagged the utility pole pulling it off the semi.

The accident occurred just before 6:00 p.m. and was filly cleared by about 8:00 p.m.. There were no reports of injuries.

At the moment the Robertson County office building has no air-conditioning and will not until at least Monday. According to the Robertson County Director of Maintenance Joe Fort, though there is visible damage to the outside of the unit, engineers will have to lift it up with the crane and look under it to assess the full extent of the damage. Until then there’s no way to know if the unit can be installed or if it will need to be repaired.

Fort had no estimate on any further installation delays if the unit does need repairs. Fort reiterated that he’ll have to get underneath the unit to assess the damage Friday. The unit installed cost about $300,000 according to Fort.
