Obituary for Mary L. West

Mary L. WestMary L. West, age 87 of Springfield, died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of  Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 4 until 8 PM and Tuesday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Mrs. West was born November 1, 1929 in Robertson County to the late Haywood and Maudine Morris in the same house that she died in. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and was a retired hair dresser. She loved her grandchildren floral squareand enjoyed crocheting and knitting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jewel Wayne Knight, and her brother, William Norman Morris.

She is survived by her husband, Wilburn West of Springfield; son, Ronald S. (Dian Moreland) Knight of Shelbyville; daughters, Kim (Johnnie) Redfearin of Springfield and Karen West of Springfield; niece and caregiver, Carla Stone of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Obituary for Alton Ray Rainwater

Alton Ray RainwaterAlton Ray Rainwater, 81, of Orlinda, died Wednesday July 12, 2017 at Alive Hospice Skyline Madison Campus. A private family graveside service was conducted in the Providence Cemetery in Franklin, KY. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday July 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Orlinda Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday July 22nd at the church.

Mr. Rainwater was born January 17, 1936 in Orlinda to the late Grady Proctor and Louise Cherry Rainwater. He was a lifelong farmer. He retired from Dupont and then went on to be the supervisor of Parks and Recreation for the City of Springfield from where he also retired. Mr. Rainwater loved farming, fishing, hunting, and music. He was a loving family man, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Judy and Mary Rainwater.

floral squareMr. Rainwater is survived by his wife: Annette Terry Rainwater of Orlinda, daughters and sons-in-law: Shelly and Mike Bass of Brentwood, Pamela and Jeffrey Daniels of Hermitage, Shawn and Billy Ray Dixon of Orlinda, brother: Donald Rainwater of Macon, GA, sisters: Betty Holmes of Orlinda, and Linda Watts of Springfield, grandchildren: Randall Jones, Rachel Kessinger-Chafin, Maeghan Covington, Cody Nichols, and Alissa Bass-Meade, seven great grandchildren

Oscar AkinsOscar Clayborn Akins, age 78, of Springfield, died Monday, July 17, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11am in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Reverend Linda Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at EverRest of Cheatham with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 4-8pm and again on Thursday from 10am until the hour of service at 11am.
Mr. Akins was born August 18, 1938 in Nashville, TN to the late Henry and Lilly Pearl Tidwell Akins. He was a farmer and member of the Martin’s Chapel Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Akins is preceded in death by his brothers, G.H. Akins, Leslie Akins and Jimmy Dale Akins; his son, Bobby Akins; and his great-granddaughter, Mattie Akins.

Mr. Akins is survived by his wife, Betty Hopkins Akins; sons, Terry Akins and Timmy (Carol Ann) Akins, both of Springfield; daughter, Tammy (Eddie) Arnold of Adams; brothers, Herman Akins of Springfield and Ernest Akins of the Phillipines; floral squaresister, Joyce Houchin of Madison; grandchildren, Stephanie Akins, Tanner Landrum, Haley Akins, Molly Akins, Annsley Watts and Ann Katherine Akins; and great-grandchildren, Maddix Akins, Rilynn Landrum and Elaina Akins.

Geri CobbGeraldine “Geri” Foley Cobb, age 82, of Chapmansboro, died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o’clock am, Wednesday, July 19th, in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. David Royalty officiating. Burial will follow in Mallory’s cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 18th, from 4:00-7:00PM, and again on Wednesday beginning at 9:00AM until the hour of service.

Mrs. Geri was born on February 16, 1935 in Hickman Co., Tennessee to the late John B. and Lenna C. Foley. She was a retired Administrative Assistant from the State of Tennessee Department of Labor, and was a member of First Baptist Church Joelton.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Billy Ray Foley; and best friend, Margie Thompson.

Obituary for Holland Alexander White

Holland Alexander WhiteHolland White, age 84, of Hendersonville, TN, was a testament to the impact that a loving and giving man can have on his family. He passed from this life on Saturday, July 15, surrounded by those who knew and loved him as a husband, father, grandfather and hero.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Anna White; brothers, Dr. William O., Paul, Leon, James, Ramel and Jerry White; sisters, Martha Shipman and Carrie Johnson. After growing up in Decaturville, TN, Holland captured the heart of Anne Christian, and they were married on December 5, 1958. Together they created a devoted family, bonded by love, affection and humor. Todd (Suzy) White, Tracy (Jerry) Scheel and Robin Lawson were blessed to call him “Daddy”; and so many others, including his wonderful grandchildren: Jenna Warden, Whitney Kieffner, Jared, Alex and Johnathon Scheel, Kendall, Gabrielle, Keaton and Grant Lawson, Matt, Bart and Jake Dean; and his precious great grandchildren: Jase and Jayden Warden, Ledger Kieffner, Evelyn, Caroline and Lilly Anne Sheel, Lincoln, Lilianna, Preston and Ashton Dean had the good fortune to know him fondly as “Pops”. He was so proud to welcome anyone, even strangers, into his home, and make them feel a part of his family. He loved having people over to cheer on the Vols, discuss the best fishing spots or enjoy a dip in the pool. Holland’s love of God was the only thing that took precedence over his family. He was a faithful follower of Christ and he shared his passion with all who knew him. Even in his final days he talked of his love for his Savior. His earthly life has ended, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all he touched and with his sweet gentle spirit.

Services will be conducted by Rev. Jeff Lake. Pallbearers will be his Grandsons and Nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Fred Bracey’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Hendersonville. Interment will be in Hendersonville Memory Gardens with Military Honors. Mr. Scott was born April 26, 1935 in Davidson County to the late Freddie and Maggie Coleman Scott, Sr. He worked in the Metro School System until his retirement and was a member of the Martin’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Scott is survived by his sons, Terry (Janice) Scott of Taylorsville, KY, Britt (Rosemary) Scott of Springfield and Johnny (Merilee) Scott of Martin’s Chapel; brother, Randall “Moosie” (Ethel) Scott of Nashville; sister, Dorothy Jean Harrison of Nashville; grandchildren, Julie McDonald, Ashley Saxon, Jessica Des Ruisseaux and Brittany Woodard; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was born on December 6, 1947 in San Francisco, CA the daughter of the late Charles Neil Allen and Eleanor Berg Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Susanne Rosburg and brother, Michael Allen. A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date with Pastor Tony Espinosa officiating.

Kayton Arthur RobertsKayton Roberts, age 83 of Greenbrier TN, left to be with our Lord on July 13, 2017. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Iva Lee; brothers, Oswald, Joe, and Vance; and sister, Francis. He is survived by his children, Louie Roberts (Fran), Jan Roberts-Williams (Les), and Martin Roberts (Tiffanie); along with five grandchildren, Adam, Natalie, Samuel, Jaima, and Jordan; and sister, Alberta Spring.

Kayton was a Hall of Fame steel guitarist for Hank Snow over 30 years and is credited for his mastery and unique playing style among professional artists and the music community. Kayton’s contributions include performances and recordings with John Fogerty, Emmylou Harris, George Jones, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Riders in the Sky, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart, Aaron Tippin, Randy Travis, Hank Williams III and a host of others. Kayton was a true one of a kind and master of his craft and his musical style will live on for generations.
