Obituary for R.L. Dorris

R.L. DorrisRobert Leonard “R.L.” Dorris, 83, of Greenbrier, died Monday October 30, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Friday November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas M. Rawls and Reverend Jon Briggs officiating. Interment will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery with Jeff Wilson, Billy Phillips, Codi Maddox, Adam Raymond, Troy Raymond, Jason Davis, and Billy Kemp serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Dorris was born May 10, 1934 in Robertson County to the late Johnnie Jones and Emmie Mae Lamb Dorris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Mr. Dorris was the owner and operator of R.L. Dorris Cabinet Shop. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a longtime supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Charles Stanley Ministries.

floral squareIn addition to his parents, Mr. Dorris was preceded in death by his wife: Donnie Ruth Brown Dorris, and by his siblings: Judy Suter, Jay and Carlos Dorris. Mr. Dorris is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Ronnie and Cindy Dorris of Lebanon, daughter and son-in-law: Robin and Russell Raymond of White House, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren

Obituary for Virginia Lemmons

Virginia LemmonsMarion Virginia Lemmons, 97, of New Market and formerly of Cedar Hill, died Sunday October 29, 2017 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday November 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedar Hill United Methodist Church with Bro. Frank Kirby and Rev. Eric Limbo officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with grandsons Patrick and Sam Denton, John, Chris, Greg, Scott, Jeff, and Great Grandson Sam Lemmons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Cedar Hill United Methodist Church.

Ms. Virginia was born September 15, 1920 in Robertson County to the late Bruce C. and Gladys Hunter Sherrod. She was a homemaker, co-owner and bookkeeper for Lemmons Gulf Service Station in Cedar Hill. She was married to Mr. Bill for 56 years. Ms. Virginia was a longtime member of Cedar Hill United Methodist Church. After moving to New Market, TN to be near her family, she became a member of the New Market United Methodist Church. Ms. Virginia was a member of the FCE at both Cedar Hill and New Market and enjoyed some activities at the New Market Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel Granville “Bill” Lemmons, and by her brother: William C. “Billy” Sherrod.

floral squareMs. Virginia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Samuel N. and Athen Lemmons of New Market, her daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Robert Denton of Crossville, grandchildren: John(Kelly), Chris(Angela), Greg(Rebekah), Scott(Jennifer), and Jeff(Beth) Lemmons, Patrick(Angela) and Sam(Lexy) Denton, and by 12 great grandchildren.

Marion Edward HollandMarion Edward Holland, age 69 of Springfield, died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Alive Hospice Skyline Madison Campus. His remains are to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. Holland was born May 17, 1948 in Cottage Grove, OR to the late Melvin and Helen Morgan Holland. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic. His favorite pastime was fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Holland.

Obituary for Bailey Brown Grant

Bailey Brown GrantBailey Brown Grant, age 89 of Springfield, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at NorthCrest Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Mr. Grant was born June 11, 1928 in Robertson County to the late Hirem and Clarinda Dodson Grant. He was a retired supervisor in manufacturing. He enjoyed playing music including the fiddle, guitar, and banjo. In floral squareaddition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mitchell Grant; a grandson, David Crabtree; five brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his sons, Roy Edward Grant of Houston, TX and Joseph Neal Grant of Springfield; daughter, Beverly Carol Crabtree of Hermitage; sister, Edna Gray of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Brenda Joyce BeanAge 75 of White House passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at her home. She was born January 7, 1942 in Nashville, TN to George Elmer “Buddy” and Lois Jean Irving Phillips. She worked as a homemaker. She made porcelain dolls, loved feeding and watching the birds, camping, road trips and growing beautiful flowers.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Barbara Horn and Teresa Hardin. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gerald G. Bean; son, James Brady Fletcher; daughter, Erma (Tom) Christoe, all of White House, TN; brother, Michael Phillips; sisters, Judy Martinez, Cathy Tidwell and Cecelia McMillin; 4 grandchildren, Valerie Pappas, Michael Fletcher, Makaila Fletcher and Brooklyn Fletcher; great-grandchild, Riley Nelson.

A private family interment followed in White House Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held Saturday 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

She was born April 29, 1945 in Nashville, TN to the late Lee Porter Gober and the late Mary Ruth Mabry Gober. She was also preceded in death by a son, Freddy Satterfield and a brother, Virgil Gober.

She is survived by son, John Michael Satterfield of Gulf Shores, AL; brother, Samuel (Marie) Gober of Greenbrier; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Oakland Cemetery with grandsons Bart Krisle and Ricky Krisle officiating.
She was born in Robertson County, TN on October 11, 1918 to the late George W. and Fannie Mays Webster. She was a School Cafeteria worker in the Greenbrier Elementary School and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church.

(Betty) Krisle of Springfield; daughters, Gale (Harry) Martin of Brentwood, Edna (Elliott) Dorris of Spring City, TN; Eunice Cook Grisby of Greenbrier; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.

Diddra JohnsonDiddra McLaughlin Johnson, age 66, of Pleasant View, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Greg Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Will Smith Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4-7pm and again on Friday from 12Noon until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 10, 1951 in Nashville to the late Wrenn McLaughlin and Mrs. Jean Shearron McLaughlin of Ashland City. She was a 1969 graduate of Cheatham County High School and retired executive secretary. She loved to travel with her husband and loved taking care of her great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Craig Johnson; son, Troy (Chelsea) Teasley of Ashland City; brothers, Jeffrey McLaughlin of floral squareFranklin and Shane (Robin) McLaughlin of Nashville; sister, Angela Jackson of Nashville; and several loving nieces and nephews.

If so desired, memorial contributions in Mrs. Johnson’s memory may be made to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. All donations may be sent in care of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View.
