Obituary for Peggy Murphy

Peggy MurphyPeggy Ann Clinard Murphy, 82, of White House, died Tuesday April 17, 2018 at Alive Hospice Skyline Madison Campus. Funeral services will be conducted Friday April 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Milldale Chapel with Brother Bob Filson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Plains Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Milldale Chapel.

Mrs. Murphy was born October 20, 1935 in Robertson Co, TN. She was a member of Cross Plains United Methodist Church and had formerly worked in the East Robertson High School cafeteria. Mrs. Murphy enjoyed cooking, gardening, and bird watching. She was preceded in death by her parents: Clyde and Laura Mae Rainwater Clinard, her husbands: James Owen Murphy and Johnny Morgan, her daughter: Amanda Murphy Yount, and by her brother: Clifford Clinard.

Obituary for Ella Mae Black

Ella Mae BlackElla Mae Black, 71, of Springfield, died Saturday April 14, 2018 at NHC Healthcare Center in Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday April 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Roger Putnam officiating. Her siblings will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Ms. Black was born October 19, 1946 in Sumner County to the late Hershel and Minnie Scott Black. She was a graduate of East Robertson High School and a member of Byrum’s Chapel Church. She had formally worked in the maintenance department at Osh Kosh. Ms. Black enjoyed working crosswords, painting, drawing, dancing, and playing cards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Charles D. and Donnie R. Black.

Ms. Black is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Timothy and Lorrie Swann of Springfield, her daughters and sons-in-law: Lee Ann and Byron Forewright of Springfield, Kellie and Justin Camp of White House, her brothers: Hobert L. Black of Ft. Myers, FL, Lloyd T. Black of Portland, James G. Black of Portland, her sisters: Clarise B. Lehman of Portland, Ophelia B. Couts of Springfield, Mary Patricia floral squareRoberts of Franklin, KY, her grandchildren: T.C. Obituary for Richard Allen Bishop

Richard Allen BishopRichard Allen Bishop, 85, of the Owens Chapel community in Springfield, died Thursday April 12, 2018 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield. Funeral services were conducted Monday April 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home. Entombment followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with his grandsons: Logan Green, Matthew Green, Bruce Bishop, Jr., Nathan Bishop, Michael Bishop, William Bishop, and Micah Bishop serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters: Tiffany Williams, Melissa Bishop, Callie Bishop, Taylar Bishop, Heather Justice, Apryl Kirby, and Katrisha Christie. The family received friends on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Bishop was born June 13, 1932 in Newfound, KY to the late Allen and Lucy Bishop. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bishop was the owner and operator of Richard Bishop Floor Covering and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed going on family trips and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife of 61 years: Rosie Kilmon Bishop, sons and daughters-in-law: Rick and Janet Bishop, Sr. of Greenwood, IN, Bruce and Rachel Bishop, Sr. of Springfield, daughters and sons-in-law: Rose Ann and Lorne Green of Springfield, Beth and Tom Knapp of Indianapolis, IN, 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Allan LinsonObituary for Allan Linson – Age 68 of Portland, TN went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 16, 2018 at St. Thomas West. He was born March 28, 1950 in Portland, TN to Woodrow Wilson & Annie Elmerrene McCrery Linson. The family moved from the Cherry Mound Community to the New Deal Community when Allen was two years old. Allan worked with his father on the family farm and attended Oakmont School. He graduated from Portland High School. He attended Volunteer State Community College and Gupton College. His first “public job” was as a co-op student working for Woody and Chris Denton at Portland True Value Hardware. Later, he managed a Hardware Store for the Dentons in Franklin, KY, and after that opened his own True Value Hardware Store in White House. While in White House he served on the Sumner County Volunteer Ambulance Service and as an Auxillary Police Officer for the City of White House. Linson had a long career in retail sales including building supplies, and farm supplies. He and his wife owned and operated a florist for many years. He owned his own real estate and auction company before changing careers into funeral service, which he felt was his true calling and mission in life. Allan was an active member of Halltown General Baptist Church, serving on various committees and boards, teaching Sunday School and serving those around him. He and his wife Debby served as Youth Leaders at Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church in the late 1970’s and still have close friendships with their “kids” from that group. Linson served as treasurer of the Portland Association of General Baptists for 30 years. He was also a board member of the GBIF and has served on several church committees on the local and national level. One of Allan’s favorite memories was of the time he spent singing with a gospel quartet, along with Wayne Lamberth, Rev. Clayton Hall, Joyce Carlisle Warren, Larry Paul Tate and Lloyd “Popeye” Summerville. Allan was a member and past master of Portland Masonic Lodge #326 Free and Accepted Masons, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and was awarded the KCCH in 2009. He was a member of White House Chapter 222 Order of the Eastern Star, and served as a past patron of that organization many times. Linson was active in the community. He was instrumental in starting the Red Ribbon Parade in Portland. He donated time to line up both the Strawberry and Christmas Parades for the City of Portland. He served for over 20 years on the Portland Housing Authority and was currently serving as board chairman. He currently worked as a funeral assistant for Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Deborah Ann Gilliam Linson, Portland, TN; “Heart Daughter” Jennifer (Jesse) Hand, Portland, TN; brother, Tommy Linson, Cottontown, TN 2 grandchildren, Savannah Hand and Marcus Allan Hand, Portland, TN very special nephews (his boys), Thomas Allen (Tiffany) Linson and James Blake Linson, both of Cottontown, TN; special great niece, Kinley Linson; Uncles, R.C. Tomlinson, Portland, TN and James L. Tomlinson, Gallatin, TN; several cousins.

Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 1pm at Halltown General Baptist Church 120 Dink Rut Road Portland, TN with Pastor Mike Brady and Bro. Chris Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Halltown Cemetery with floral squarefamily and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation is planned for Wednesday, April 18, 2018 4-8pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House. A Masonic service is scheduled for 7PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Additional visitation is planned for Thursday, April 19, 2018 11am until the time of the service at Halltown General Baptist Church. Memorial contributions are encouraged to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

Wayne CarriganLarry “Wayne” Carrigan, Jr., age 56, of Joelton, Tennessee, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at his home.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 o’clock pm, Wednesday, April 18th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Bro. Don Dungan officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 3:00PM until the hour of service at 6:00PM.

Wayne was born on November 15, 1961 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Larry and Alberta Sullivan Carrigan. He was a truck driver and of the Baptist faith.

Jimmy Rippy, Sr.Jimmy Morris Rippy, Sr., age 78, of Guthrie, KY and formerly of Robertson County, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, April 16, 2018 at 1pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Curtis Hester officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Eugene Young, Craig Russell, Caleb Richardson, William Johnson, Mike Scarborough and Bartolo Real serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 4-8pm and again on Monday from 10am until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mr. Rippy was born March 31, 1940 in Springfield to the late Richard Jerry and Froncie Mae Lane Rippy. He was a farmer and member of the Christ Community Apostolic Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Rippy is preceded in death by his brothers, Odell Rippy, Eugene Rippy, Jerry Rippy, Larry Rippy, Roger Dale Rippy and Billy Rippy; and sisters, Winfred West, Louise Burris, Juanita Grant and Jewell Dean Elmore.

Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery with Will Freeman Oliver, Jerome Ellis, Todd Jones, Jason Johnson, Randall Jones and Eddie Long serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 4-8pm and again on Monday from 9am until the hour of service at 11am.

Mrs. Jones was born November 26, 1923 in Cedar Hill to the late Will Ewing and Martha Elizabeth Williams Head. She worked at Acme Boot for many years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her husband, Bethel Davis Jones; her brothers, Alvie Head, A.T. Head, John E. Head and Will E. Head, Sr.; sisters, Lorene H. Oliver, Irene H. Lee and Pauline Head; and her great-granddaughter, Kierstyn Smith.

Obituary for John R. “Vardell” Rawls

John R. "Vardell" RawlsJohn R. “Vardell” Rawls, 87 of Greenbrier, passed away April 13, 2018 at his residence.

The family received friends 10am to 2pm, Monday April 16, 2018 at Rock Springs Baptist Church.

The funeral service followed at 2pm at the church with Rev. Randy Harman and Rev. Frank Evans officiating. Burial followed in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Vardell was born November 3, 1930 in Springfield, TN to the late Richard Arnold and Hellon Benton Rawls. He was a salesman with Stewart Williams, a member and Deacon at Rock Springs Baptist Church, a volunteer at NorthCrest Medical Center and served in the US Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 60+ years, Elizabeth Hall Rawls; children, Cynthia (Thomas) Rawls Saladin, Thomas Dale (Cynthia) Rawls, Timothy Lee (Ann) Rawls; grandchildren, James Andrew Hall, Richard Eric Hall, Christine Renee Thomas, Hallee Marie Rawls, Anlee Elizabeth Rawls; great-grandchildren, Kylie Marie Hall, floral squareIan Andrew Hall, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Hall, Lily Sophia Thomas, Mason Eric Hall, Charlotte Mae Hall and Connor Daniel Thomas.

Terry Eugene SavageAge 56 of Springfield passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at Alive Hospice Madison Campus. He was born August 2, 1961 in Nashville, TN to David P. & Rita Ann Short Savage. He loved building things and worked as a bridge builder. He had a world of friends and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was an avid lover of Harley Davidson motorcycles.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-parents, Charles Hunton & Betty Savage; brother, Tracy Lynn Savage; great niece, Emma. He is survived by his son, Jonathan Eugene Savage; daughter, Haley June Savage, both of Fairview, TN; brother, Donald Ray Savage, Gallatin, TN; sister, Lisa (Terry) Abernathy, Goodlettsville, TN; 2 nieces; 2 great nieces; 3 great nephews.

She worked many years as a Hotel Manager for Red Roof Inn and was a member of the Everyday Church in Goodlettsville. She was born on November 14, 1955 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Ray Emmerson and Mary Lou Fields Merritt. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Rae Denise Craig.

Debra is survived by a daughter, Sarah Howard of Springfield; beloved nephew, Kendall (Mandi) Rutherford; sisters, Lisa Karen Rutherford of Union County, Tennessee, Lori Jan (Randy) Foust of Union County, Tennessee, Melanie LeAnn (Rick) Stanfield of Russellville, Kentucky, Maria Antoinette Gaddy of Knoxville, Tennessee; 10 nieces and two additional nephews.

Visitation with the family was held on Saturday from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 pm – the hour of service at 4:00 pm. Debra’s remains were cremated following the funeral service.

Joseph Alexander HarlowJoseph Alexander Harlow, age 77 of Hendersonville, passed away at home on Thursday, April 12, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 5, 1941, to Bryan and Mary Gassaway Harlow.
He was a great husband, father and grandfather and was one who made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed life and nature and was an avid Indiana Hoosier Fan.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Jo Harlow. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Harlow; his son, Craig (Misti) Harlow; two daughters, Suzanne (Thomas) Simmons and Tress Harlow; his grandchildren, Cole Harlow, Cort Harlow and Caroline Simmons; and his former wife, Lois Harlow.

He worked as a minister and a musician. He enjoyed playing the piano, singing impersonating Elvis and ministering to everyone he met. He was a media member of Family Worship Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 7=1/2 years, Belinda Necaise Thomas, floral squareCross Plains, TN; sons, Aaron Thomas, GA and Christopher Jones, MS; daughter, Naomi Thomas, GA; brothers, Michael Thomas, GA and Steve Thomas, NC; sister, Linda Pooler, GA; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

There is no visitation or service scheduled for Mr. Thomas at this time.
