Obituary for Clayton Jackson

Clayton JacksonEarl Clayton Jackson, age 81 of Adams, died Friday, December 2, 2016 at NorthCrest Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Jackson officiating. Interment will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM in EverRest of Cheatham with Alton “Shag” Binkley, Jimmy Jackson, Josh Jackson, Bradley Shelton, Scott Harris, and Toby Catlin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Sautter, Blake Jackson, Matthew Jackson, and Clayton Shelton. The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Mr. Jackson was born July 13, 1935 in Robertson County to the late Earl and Irene Fort Jackson. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, was a veteran of the Army Reserve, and retired from Aerostructures. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, C.F., James Melvin, and Jenneroy “Tomcat” Jackson, and sisters, Mavis Surrett and Norma Sue Bayliss.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Overby Jackson of Adams; sons and daughter-in-law, Clayton Lynn Jackson of Adams and Dennis Mitchell and Darla Jackson of Cedar Hill; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Denise and Ricky Ellis of Adams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil and Emily Jackson of Springfield and Bobby Ray and Linda Jackson of Pleasant View; sisters and brother-in-law, Linda Harris od Cedar Hill and Glenda and Alton Binkley of Pleasant View; grandchildren, Ashley Sautter, Josh Jackson, Bradley Shelton, and Blake Jackson; and great grandchildren,

Obituary for Wayne Jenkins

Wayne JenkinsDonald Wayne Jenkins, 70, of Springfield, died Monday November 28, 2016 at his home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday November 30th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Cross Plains Cemetery with Kenneth Jenkins, Mark Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, Brad Lett, Ricky Jenkins, and Dan Bush serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were William Jenkins, Jerry Jenkins, Rick Tooley, and Lertin “Dee” White. The family received friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Jenkins was born February 22, 1946 in Robertson County to the late Ray and Lucille Dorris Jenkins. He was retired from Acme Boot and was a member of Cross Plains United Methodist Church. Mr. Jenkins was a member of the New Voice Club in Nashville. He loved doing yard work, collecting zippo lighters, and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Karen Harris.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of 49 years: Bertha Empson Jenkins of Springfield, son and daughter-in-law: Brandon and Megan Jenkins of Springfield, daughter: Wendy Hall of Springfield, brothers and sisters-in-law: Kenneth and Joy floral squareJenkins of Orlinda, William and Mary Ann Jenkins of Hendersonville, Jerry and Vicki Jenkins of Springfield, Ricky and Sherry Jenkins of Greenbrier, Robert and Barbara Jenkins of Springfield, sisters and brothers-in-law: Doris and Brad Lett of Springfield, Debbie and Rick Tooley of Adairville, KY, grandchildren: Cooper and Noah Hall, and Kennedy Jenkins.

Bettye Jo ThompsonAge 86 of Goodlettsville passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Goodlettsville. She was born July 19, 1930 in Springfield, TN to Connie Cecil and Beulah Simmons Baggett. She worked as a bookkeeper and homemaker. She served as choir director for Love’s United Methodist Church in Nashville for many years. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing and music. She was a member of Cross Plains United Methodist Church. She was married to the late David Lee Thompson for 64 years, who was a retired Metro Police Department lieutenant and also a former deputy police chief with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Department. The attached photo is the one he carried in his wallet since the 1950’s.

She is preceded in death by parents, Connie & Beulah Baggett; husband, David Lee Thompson; sisters, Bonnie Lynn “Tootsie” Heard and Mrs. Tim “Poppy” Glidewell. She is survived by daughter, Emaly Thompson, Goodlettsvlle, TN.

Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 1pm in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Bro. Clay Burchett and Bro. Clint Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery floral squarewith Austin Jones, Joe Swann, Grady Perry, Allan B. Heard, Bryant “Tomato” Barry and Herb Lord serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Barry, J.C. Broadrick, Chris Burchett and Andy Heard.

He was born February 15, 1929 in Greenbrier, TN to the late William Clyde Pitt, Sr and Nellie Mae Murphy Pitt. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eva Jane Traina.

He was an accountant at Madison Hospital and was retired from the US Army and the TN Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thelma Wetmore Pitt; son, William (Jennie) Pitt; daughters, Barbara Jane Pitt, Penny (Greg) Simpson; brother, Ronald E. Pitt; grandchildren, Benjamin (Hope) Pitt, Dwayne Thaxton, Philip (Kelly) Alred, Kyle Knapp, Olivia Reynolds, Lekisha Petway, Tomeka Davis, Kerrie, Andrew and Patrick Simpson and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Haskell Verlan (H.V. / Hack) LathamHaskell Verlan Latham (H.V. or Hack) passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 after a brief illness. Born July 19, 1925 in Sevier County, TN. Preceded in death by parents, Verlan Haskell Latham and Dixie Louise Walker Latham, twin brothers, Harrell Walter and Carroll Walker Latham, brothers Benton H. Latham, James W. Latham; sisters, Frances Latham Patty and Betty Latham Tarwater.

Survived by wife, Margaret Ann Latham; sons, Tracy C. (Karen) of Knoxville Tennessee, Stacy E. Latham (Danielle) of Hendersonville, Tennessee and James Rodney Ramsey of Hendersonville, Tennessee; grandchildren Jackson, Hayden Emily, Alexander, Luke and Cole Latham.

Retired from Gulf Oil Corporation after 32 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church since 1939 when he gave his life to Christ at age 14. He was a World War II Veteran and served in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces, 7th Fleet, aboard LST 721 in the South Pacific where he participated in several operations including the last invasion of World War II at Balikpappan, Borneo on July 1, 1945. He was a 50 year 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Knoxville Bodies, a Shriner, a member of Al Menah Temple, Nashville and Masters Lodge #244, F&AM, Knoxville member since March 17, 1963. He was also a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels since 1969.

After retiring from Gulf Oil Corporation, he and his family moved from Nashville to Hendersonville, Tennessee where they owned and operated several businesses and were involved in many civic activities and organizations. He was one of the founding member of the Hendersonville Morning Sertoma Club and the acquiring of financing and real estate on which were later deeded to the city and are known as Veterans Park.

The family received friends and family 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 4th at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Hendersonville. A brief visitation was held at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Sevierville, Tennessee from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm EST with services beginning at 2:00 pm EST. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers; grandson, Jackson Latham, brother-in-law Tom Allen, floral squareNephews, Chris Allen, John Paul Patty, Donnie Rule and Barry Rule.

Ms. Jacobs was born November 14, 1951 in Nashville to the late Ralph and Dorothy Johnson Vaughn. She worked as a hospice nurse and was a member of the Scottsboro Mission Church.

In addition to her parents Ms. Jacobs is preceded in death by her brothers, Steven Vaughn and Douglas Vaughn, and her baby sister, Judith Vaughn. She is survived by her step-mother, Charlotte Landers of Owensboro, KY; aunt, Mary Johnson of Nashville; brothers, Timothy D. Vaughn and William “Billy” Vaughn, both of Henderson, KY, Russell Vaughn of Owensboro, KY and Donald Vaughn of McKenzie, TN; sister, Rebecca Vaughn of Opelika, AL; and 3 nieces she loved dearly.

Mrs. Chambers was born February 17, 1922 in Mifflinburg, PA to the late John and Vernie Felmy Miller. She was a homemaker and member of the Springfield First United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Chambers is preceded in death by her son, Bruce George Chambers; sisters, Ellen Spangler and Sarah Keister; and brothers, Frank Miller, Harry Miller and John Miller. Mrs. Chambers is survived by her husband, Robert Chambers; son, David Alan (Janet) Chambers of Wichita, KS; daughters, floral squareVerna (George) Hall of Springfield and Deanna (Gene) Taylor of Leroy, AL; sister, Anna Beckley of PA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Glenn was born in Nashville, TN to the late Herbert and Shirley Parrish Cranford. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Wayne Cranford, Herbert Cranford; sisters, Sandra Lyons, Gayle Pewitt and grandson, Mason Cranford.

He was retired from Tyson Foods where he worked in packaging and distribution and was of the Christian Faith. He loved going to Florida, playing cards and gambling. He enjoyed sweet tea and doing things with his grand kids.

She was a retired Clerk with the State of Tennessee Department of Safety and affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Adams was born March 6, 1956 in Pontiac, MI to the late John and Maxine Eschbach. She worked as a travel consultant and was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Adams is preceded in death by her adopted parents, Walter and Jean Mendenhall Bussel, her brothers, Donnie Eschbach and David Eschbach and her granddaughter, Angelica Stevenson.
