He was a wonderful husband and Dad, and was always friendly and very outgoing. He served as Mayor and Alderman in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, and served 3 terms as Alderman from 2002-2010 in Martin, Tennessee. He was a current member of the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church, and was always very active in church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Lovie Wiggins Harrison; his brothers, Melvin Harrison and Edgar Earl Harrison, Jr.; and his sisters, Mary Lou Harrison Hogg and Dorothy Harrison Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sherry Rawls Harrison; his daughters, Vickie (Craig) Harrison Wade and Pamela Jo Harrison; his granddaughter, Ashley Victoria Wade; and his sisters, Linda Darnell and Doris Harrison.

Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery with Gilford Walker, Edwin Hogan, Donnie Kilgore, Terry Bracey, Terry Harris, and Van Vick serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Tuesday, February 27th, from 4:00-8:00PM and again on Wednesday at the church beginning at 1:00PM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mr. Vann was born on December 12, 1935 in Pleasant View, Tennessee to the late Billy and Louise Garrett Vann. He was retired from the United Methodist Publishing House, was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for forty-five years and taught Sunday School for over fifty years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Vann, James Robert Vann; and brother-in-law, Argiel Lee Osborne.

Obituary for Harmon Jones, Jr.

Harmon Jones, Jr.Harmon Harris Jones, Jr., age 81, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at St. Thomas West in Nashville. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 2pm at Springfield Baptist Church with Dr. David Leavell, Brother Jim Fields and Jack McCall officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tommy Lyons, Gary Keyt, Nicholas Chiappina, Tristan Jones and Hunter Jones serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 12 Noon until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mr. Jones was born October 27, 1936 in Ashland City to the late Harmon and Mildred Dempsey Jones, Sr. He was a farmer and businessman in Robertson County for many years. Just a few of his accomplishments include winning the Young Farmer Award at age 13, playing football at Springfield High School and TN Tech and attending the Masters Program at U.T. Knoxville. He was a TN Livestock Producer’s Market Agent, established the first storage facility in Robertson County and held the office of Director at Farmers Bank for 23 years including Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Civitan Club, the White Oak Fishing Club and The Gideon’s International and taught children’s bible class for 25 years at Springfield Baptist Church where he was a member for 73 years.

In addition to his parents Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Jones Helms. He is survived by his wife, Anne Bowman Jones; sons, Harmon Harris (Jennifer) Jones, III of Thompson Station and Robert Garner Jones of Springfield; daughter, Kimberly Watson (Paolo) Chiappina of Lockport, NY; grandchildren, Nicholas (Marissa) Chiappina, Francesca (Marouan Ben Guirat) Chiappina, Jessica floral squareJones, Tristan Jones, Hunter Jones and Emily Jones; and great-grandchild, Elaina Ben Guirat.

She was born April 14, 1947 in Hazard, KY to the late Eugene and Sallie Riddle Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger L. White.

She was a Pharmacy Tech at Walmart. She loved sewing, cooking, reading, crocheting, loving her family and raising her four daughters.

She is survived by daughters, Billie Jo White, Katherine (Travis) Holliman, Karen Thomas, Tracey White; brothers, Marvin Lewis, Charles (Roberta) Lewis, Sr., floral squareRonald (Lynn) Lewis, Sr.; sister, Patsy (Jeff) Nielsen; grandchildren, Kristus Thomas, Colt Holliman, Jozef Thomas, David Gladitsch, Alexander Gladitsch and Gabriel Thomas.

She was a homemaker and had been a professional singer with opera training.

Her remains will be conveyed to White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.

Mrs. Thomsen was born March 17, 1928 in Milan, Michigan to the late Otto and Clara Dorow.

Her husband, William Howard Thomsen, Sr., sisters, Alice Bilisky, Delphine Dusenberry, Elna Dorow and brothers, Ivan Dorow and Lional Dorow also preceded her in death.

Lila was a member of Springfield Baptist Church in Springfield. She worked at ACE Hardware Store in Royal Oak, Michigan many years before moving to Tennessee where she worked at Lowe’s in Clarksville, Jackson, Tullahoma and Springfield, Tennessee. She retired at the age of 82.

Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Marion Gaye Thomsen, Jr. of Cedar Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren: Edward (Beth) Thomsen of Pleasant View, TN, Brian (Vanessa) Thomsen of Whispering Pines, NC, Marcus (Jean) Batten of Paragould, AR, Michael (Bridgett) Batten of Paragould, AR, Steven floral square(Denise) Batten of Clarksville, TN; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Kyle, Zachary, Paige and Spencer Thomsen, Wyatt, Cato, Jax, Cody, Colton and Chelsea Batten, Megan Peterson, Rossi Morgan and Jessica Watson. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann Stoneburner Oakley; his mother, Catherine LeFluer; his sons, Ezariah Oakley, Andrew Buchanan, and Aida Tatum; his daughters Lily Oakley and Madelyn Tatum; and his brother, Justin Marlow.

Obituary for Betty Kate Townsend

Betty Kate TownsendElizabeth “Betty Kate”, as the family called her, Townsend, age 99, of Springfield, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at NHC Healthcare. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:30pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Reverend Clay Burchett officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Jarrod Holman, Justin Holman, Corey Richardson, Mike Sprenger and Bob Sneed serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1pm until the hour of service at 2:30pm.

Mrs. Townsend was born August 31, 1918 in Springfield to the late William and Elizabeth Woodard Miles. She was an English Professor at Union University and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Barbourville, KY. They both were employed by Union College in Barbourville, Ky. He was the vice president of Development of the college and she was an English professor until she retired. They spent most of their lives at Union College which is called the first College in the Mountains of Kentucky. They have an annex named after them on campus called the Milton & Betty Townsend Annex. Betty received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western State Univ. in Bowling Green, Ky. She taught at Springfield High School, Coopertown School in Robertson County, Bowling Green High School, Western State University and at Union College in Barbourville, Ky. Her family on her mother’s and father’s side were of early pioneer families that came to Tn in the late 1700’s and many family still live in Robertson County. Teaching was in her blood. Her grandmother taught Sunday School. Her mother graduated from Peabody College in the late 1800’s and taught school in Robertson County. Her niece, Kathy Jones Sneed is also a teacher. Even though she had no children, her students fondly remember her style of teaching English some are teachers today because of her. Betty was an accomplished pianist and played for her church as well as the college vocal groups. Her students remembered her as being very strict on the usage of the English language and a disciplined teacher of the usage of English words.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Townsend is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Houck Townsend and her brothers, William Miles and John Miles. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Miles Jones of Springfield; nieces, Kathy (Bob) Jones Sneed of Cedar Hill, Evelyn Duval of Chattanooga and Nancy (Mike) Sprenger of Crossville; and nephews, William (Caffie) Jones of Springfield and Richard (Jana) Jones of Goodlettsville.

Mr. Carrigan was born on January 6, 1940 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Jack and Thursel Albert Carrigan. He was a retired carpet layer and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Carrigan; son, floral squareJess Carrigan; and brother, Billy Carrigan.

Survivors include his son, Wayne Carrigan; brother, Richard “Dot” (Ruby) Carrigan; grandchildren, Allison (Justin) Blair, Josh Carrigan, Joey Carrigan, Michelle Carrigan, Lori (Ronnie) Alderidge, and Crystal Allen; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edgar Eugene Dresslar Sr.Edgar Eugene Dresslar, Sr. age 76 of Goodlettsville passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Dresslar was born in Topeka, KS October 23, 1941 to the late Bascomb Orman and Vera Nesmith Dresslar. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Taylor.

He was a retired Butcher with Harris-Teeter.
