Obituary for Dorothy Burney

Dorothy BurneyDorothy Fuqua Burney, 96, lifelong resident of the Ashburn community in Springfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday February 9, 2017.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jeff Orndorff, Rich Moore, Chad Hall, Mike Offutt, Nick Offutt, E.J. Offutt, Bobby Warren, Ryan Orndorff, and Corey Krulik serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Randolph, Jay Fuqua, Jerry Fuqua, Jane Holloway, Wanda Curtis, Evelyn Orndorff, Rhonda Elmore, Bethany Burton, Mary Taylor, and Julie Bernard. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burney was born November 6, 1920 in the Ashburn community in Springfield to the late Edgar G. and Mintie Williams Fuqua. She graduated from the eighth grade at Fuqua School. Each day going to school she would have to cross a swinging bridge that her brother, Jesse Fuqua, was always sure to make swing more as she crossed it. She graduated high school from Barren Plains School. Mrs. Burney from time to time worked at the Ashburn Store, but spent most of her time as a homemaker. She loved gardening, canning, and was a wonderful cook. Someone once stated that she could make a nine-course meal out of a sack of potatoes. Mrs. Burney was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard Mathews Burney, and by her siblings: Jimmy, Johnny, William Caleb, and Jesse Fuqua, Annie Lou Barrow, and Elizabeth Lee Hancock.

Mrs. Burney is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Donna Gwynn and Bob Orndorff of Adairville, KY, Lillian Diane and Joe Krulik of Springfield, Darlynn and floral squareRichard Moore of Adairville, KY, grandchildren: Jeff (Evelyn) Orndorff, Emily (Mike) Offutt, Rich Moore, Jessica (Chad) Hall, step-grandchildren: Joseph (Kristy) Krulik, Corey (Laurie) Krulik, eight great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren

Obituary for Nancy Opal Allen

Nancy Opal AllenNancy Opal Allen, 99, of Springfield, died Monday February 6, 2017 at Brookdale in Goodlettsville. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday February 8th at 10:00 a.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. There was no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Mrs. Allen was born July 18, 1917 in Logan County, KY to the late Boyd and Willie Gertrude Robertson Pike, Sr. She lived and worked in Michigan for many years. She was a retired Advertising Specialist from what is now Target. Mrs. Allen was a member of Springfield First United Methodist Church and she enjoyed gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: floral squareClaude Allen, and by several siblings.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her nieces: Sharon Gregory of Springfield, Nancye Sanford of Nashville, and Jeanne Rada of Clarksville.

Obituary for Faye Hankins

Faye HankinsFaye Cornell Hankins, age 80, of Springfield, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at her home. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 13, 2017 at 1pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Ed Coy and Jason Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Timothy Head, Gary Minnis, Terry Minnis, Harold Head, Rob Minnis, Brad Dean, Malcomb Wilkerson, Taylor Tolleson, Jack Wilkerson and Heather Mendenhall serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 4-8pm and again on Monday from 11am until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mrs. Hankins was born December 17, 1936 in Robertson County to the late Coleman and Louise Starks Minnis. She worked at Nasco and Mansfield before her retirement and was a member of the Woodland Street Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Hankins is preceded in death by her former husband, and father of her son, Jack Wilkerson; her son, Jackie Wilkerson; her sisters, Carolyn Phelps and Pat White; and her brothers, Robert Minnis, Wilson Minnis and Wayne Minnis.

floral squareMrs. Hankins is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jane Wilkerson of Springfield; sister, Sara (Harold) Head of Cedar Hill; grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Wilkerson and Jana (Taylor) Tolleson; and great-grandchildren, Jack Wilkerson, Kate Wilkerson, Abby Wilkerson and Calvin Tolleson.

Obituary for Cindy Fentress

Cindy FentressCindy “Lou” Ann Fentress, age 55 of Joelton, TN, lost her year-long battle with cancer on Friday, February 10, 2017. She was born to Carolyn Stojanowski and the late Donald Stojanowski on March 6, 1961 in Detroit, MI. Cindy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, family member, and friend to many.

Cindy was best known for her love of baking, cross-stitching, quilting, sewing, thrifting, spending time with family, and her unconditional love for her grandchildren. Cindy was giving, loving, selfless, and always put her family’s needs ahead of her own.

She is survived by her husband, Irving Fentress, her children, Christopher Niblock (Faith), Brandon Niblock (Julie), Amber Niblock, and Jessica Fentress; her step-children, Jacob Fentress (Brandy), Elizabeth Clinard, and Rebecca Miller (Chris); and her 10 grandchildren.

Cindy was one of seven children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alan Stojanowski, and is survived by her siblings, Tami Moran (Paul), Gail Jackson (Billy), Lisa Stojanowski (Mike Elliott), Vicki Stojanowski, and Donald Stojanowski (Pam).
The following individuals will serve as pallbearers: Paul Moran, Mike Elliott, Billy Jackson, Chris Miller, Albert Fentress, and Donald Stojanowski. The family also wishes to thank all of those who have cared for her during her battle with cancer.

floral squareFinal arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be held Monday February 13th from 12-3pm Central time and will be immediately followed by a short service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mt. Sharon Cemetery, Springfield.

Obituary for William Earl Hodges Jr.

William E. Hodges, Jr. age 52 of Greenbrier, passed away Thursday, February 09, 2017 at NorthCrest Medical Center. Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier is in charge of arrangements.

The family received friends 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 and 10:00am until 12:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. The funeral service was held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier Chapel with Rev. Ray Mayo officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Florence, AL on July 27, 1964 to the late William E. Hodges, Sr and Elizabeth Swinea Hodges.

He was a truck driver for UPS. He was known for fixing about anything, loved guns, science fiction and was an avid reader.

floral squareHe is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Swinea Hodges; son, Daniel Lee (Leslie) Ellis; grandson, Athen Ellis; his special friend, Renetta Moran; brother, Jeffrey (Melanie) Hodges; sisters, Tammy (Mark) Hudgens, Tonia (Michael) Ellis, Teresa Bryant and a host of nieces and nephews.

Brenda PetersonBrenda Joyce Peterson, age 60, of Nunnelly, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 after a car wreck in Dickson County. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 12 Noon in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother James Farris officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Goodlettsville with William Peterson, Thomas Patterson, Cheven Jones, Tyler Patterson, Bobby Ward and Barry Ward serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9am until the hour of service at Noon.

Ms. Peterson was born May 12, 1956 in Madison to the late Bobby Sanders Ward and Mrs. Peggy DeSheles Ward of Madison. She worked as a clerk at Days Inn and was a member of the Rivergate Church of Christ.

Harold PritchettHarold Wayne Pritchett, age 80, of Pleasant View, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 11 o’clock am in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Brother John Grosvenor officiating. Burial followed at 2pm in the Nashville National Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 4-8PM and again on Thursday from 10AM until the hour of service.

Mr. Pritchett was born September 11, 1936 in Goodlettsville to the late Duncan Pritchett and Evelyn Harris. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents Mr. Pritchett is preceded in death by his first wife, Earline Pritchett and his brother, Freddy Pritchett. He worked in the construction industry as a house framer and was a talented handyman that could fix anything. He also worked as a lineman for NES for several years. The funeral service  was held at 11:00 am Thursday with Bro. Jack Evans and Bro. Bill Cordrey officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

Joyce was born in Alva, OK on July 31, 1934 to the late John Michael and Lydia Lena Streitmatter Nolan. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for 42 years where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Choir. She was a Realtor and enjoyed baking as well.

Obituary for Leland Herbert Harbeson

Leland Herbert HarbesonAge 83 of White House passed away suddenly February 6, 2017 while traveling. Leland Harbeson was born Herbert Leo Leland Harbeson on June 8, 1933 in the dust bowl of Elsie, Nebraska to John Wesley and Delphia Aileen Kidwell Harbeson. Lee was dedicated to his faith and family. He lived in Los Angeles, California, and traveled across the USA supporting efforts to build churches. His wife, Joy worked many hours as the church cook throughout their 60 years of happy marriage. Lee was devoted to Joy, claiming to have never spent a night apart for nearly every year of their marriage! With his children, he raised doves, rabbits, horses and dogs, always supporting their diverse education and spiritual life. He was considered a kind peacemaker, friend, and brother; and an honest business man.

Lee is a member of New Life Fellowship and proudly served his country in the US Navy, building and holding the 38th parallel in a successful tour in Korea. Leland was known for his front gold tooth, a gift from a Navy dentist, bringing those around him plenty of luck! Many believed his gold tooth was a symbol for his generosity and expertise. he gave tirelessly of his time, resources, expertise, and money without a second thought, to all in need. After leaving the Seabees as an Electrician, Lee continued working several jobs while obtaining an associate’s degree. Lee was a Neumismatist, an avid coin and stamp collector with many years in the business. He became the owner of Coin and Stamp Gallery, where he worked as a coin investment dealer, expanded to land development, and continued his charitable work. He authored a coin book, and was a recognized resource and historian.. .

He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Donald Tipton, Leslie Harbeson, Harold Harbeson and survived by his brother Harlan Harbeson of San Diego, CA, all honorable military veterans. He is survived by his wife, Joy Anetta Dotson Harbeson, White House, TN; daughters, Tammy (Steve) Pugliese, White House, TN, Laurie (Eric) Graham, Highland, CA and Kathryne (Ken) LeMieux, Red Wing, MN; 8 grandchildren, Tim, Trina, Wesley, Luke, Lance, Lula, Alana and Cheri; 5 great-grandchildren, Kily, Jace Westin, Carter and Violet, and his brother’s children, Debbie, Diane, Trudy, Ellen, Harold, Michelle and Denise and has a large floral squareextended family.

Funeral service was held at New Life Fellowship in Cross Plains, TN at 7pm Saturday, February 11, 2017 with visitation from 6-7PM prior to the service at the church. Graveside service will be held at White House Memorial Gardens at 11am, Monday, February 13, 2017 with military honors. Remains rest at Austin & Bell Funeral Home In White House, TN.
