Darnell, known by Rita to some, was preceded in death by her father Logan Darrell Marshall. She is survived by her mother Elsye Cox Marshall, her husband of 39 years Billy Gene Wix, her son David William Wix Sr. and his wife Laura, her daughter Jennifer LeAnn Wix Ayres and her husband Stephen, her grandchildren Grayson Ayres, Gregory Wix, David Wix, Elsye Ayres, and John Wix, her siblings Sandra Marshall Fulkerson and husband Herbie, Ronald Marshall and Steven Marshall, her aunts Marie Marshall Roberts and husband Mike, Audrey Woodward Cox and uncle Robert Cox.

Darnell was born on July 18, 1953, in Russellville, KY to Logan Darrell Marshall and Elsye Cox Marshall. She married the love of her life Billy Gene Wix on November 17, 1979. They made a home at their family farm in Springfield, TN where they raised their son David and daughter Jennifer. She served the Lord as a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Darnell worked tirelessly for her family and was blessed to spend her last days in the home she labored so hard for.

floral squareDarnell’s defining characteristic was her selflessness; she gave every ounce of energy she had to her family. Darnell’s last days were spent in her home, filled with the sounds of her five grandchildren at play, old friends come to laugh and reminisce, and the constant, comforting presence of her family. Darnell spent her years building a most glorious thing; she did not collect titles or accolades, she never sought wealth or material things, she gave everything she had to build a life of service to her Lord and her family, and in that perfect way she is the wealthiest person we ever knew. Never allowing herself to be lauded or rewarded in life, we celebrate that she is at this moment with her Lord, and no one has earned more crowns to throw at His feet than our sweet Mama.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church Mission Fund
