Obituary for Alan Drew “Bucky” Sweatt

Alan Drew “Bucky” Sweatt, 58, of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Memorial services will be conducted Monday April 1st at 6:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with his uncle, Billy Watkins, officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Alan was born February 14, 1961 in Springfield. He was a graduate of the Springfield High School Class of 1979. He served on the City of Springfield Zoning Appeals Board and was of the Church of Christ faith. Alan loved fishing and woodworking. He loved all his family and spending time with them, especially all the children. He was preceded in death by his father: Paul Clinton Sweatt, his sister: Patricia Sweatt Sloan, and by his step-father: William Porter Parks.

Alan is survived by his wife in love: Brandi Reynolds Sweatt of Springfield, his mother: Emma Dian Watkins Parks of Springfield, his children he raised: Logan Wayne Birdwell and Kimberly Ann Traughber both of Springfield, his brothers and floral squaresisters-in-law: Billy Mac and Karen Sweatt of Springfield, Scott and Ginger Sweatt of Greenbrier, his sisters and brothers-in-law: Paula and Ron DeBerry of Gallatin, Pam and Jerry Worsham of Springfield, his step-siblings: Mike, Steve, David, Chris Parks, and Mary Gortney, his grandchild: William David Brown, Jr., and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alan would not wish for flowers to be sent, but for donations to the love of his life, Brandi Reynolds.

Obituary for Ruth Valla Gibson

Ruth Valla Gibson, 93, of Springfield, Tennessee, and formerly of Louisville, Tennessee, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Springfield Heights Assisted Living.

She was born in Roseau County, Minnesota, to the late John O. and Ferdia Osness Valla, both immigrants from Norway. After graduating from Albert Lea High School, she went immediately to Washington, D.C., having been recruited by the Department of the Navy to work for its wartime operations. There she met her future husband, William Arthur Gibson, Sr., then on active duty, and moved to his Tennessee hometown when they married in 1946.

For more than 30 years, she was church secretary at First United Methodist Church of Knoxville. She was accomplished in sewing and crafts, having won “best of show” at the Tennessee Valley Fair. Mrs. Gibson was a dedicated Democrat throughout her life.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son, William Arthur Gibson, Jr., and a sister, Signa Johnson. Mrs. Gibson is survived by her devoted daughter Cynthia Ann Mason and husband Bill Mason of Greenbrier, Tennessee; and a sister, Evedna Threinan of Derby, Iowa.

floral squareVisitation with the family will take place 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Click Funeral Home, 109 N. Walnut Street, Lenoir City, Tennessee, followed immediately by a graveside service at the Lenoir City Cemetery.

Ms. Sally BillowMs. Sally Billow age 80, of Cross Plains, TN passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at her home in Cross Plains. Ms. Billow was born March 22, 1938 in Alhambra, CA, the daughter of the late Willard and Phyllis Olding.

Ms. Billow is survived by a son, Dan Billow of Titusville, FL. Three daughters; Suzanne Graham of Cross Plains, TN, Marguerite Alvarado of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and Mary Handfield of Yorba Linda, CA. Seven grandchildren; Elizabeth Devaughn, Alexa Billow, Aaron Alvarado, Nathan Alvarado, Jordan Billow, Marie Billow and Gabrielle Handfield.

Ronald L. BakerAge 66 of White House passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at White House Health Care & Rehab. He was born July 7, 1952 in Nashville, TN to Robert Lewis & Anna Maxine Pickle Baker. He worked as a policeman for Cheatham County before his retirement and was a member of Goodlettsville Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife of almost 14 years, Karen Stone Baker, White House, TN; daughter, Stacy Ann (Chris) Ford, Greenbrier, TN; step-daughters, Tracy (Brian) Fitzgerald and Anna Entrikin both of Ashland City, TN; step-sons, Samuel A. Mr. Bush was born on July 10, 1942 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee to the late Leonard and Macie Robertson Bush. He retired as a hospital lab tech.

Allen Dorris Curtis Sr.Allen Dorris Curtis, Sr., age 81 of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. A man of many interests and endeavors, he especially loved golf, dancing, tractors and spending time with his grandchildren. In high school he played basketball and was football team captain; earning a scholarship to TN Tech. Later he coached little league through Civitan Int. He also enjoyed horses, winning a Walking Horse World Grand Championship. Among farming and working for Sumner Co. Tractor for years, he was also an entrepreneur. He opened the first automated car wash in Hendersonville, as well as a tire store, and most recently, a driving range. Throughout his life, he was known for his infectious blue eyes and never-ending smile.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Earline Curtis; four brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Carol Curtis; Sons, Todd (Nicole) Curtis, Allen Jr. (Lesley) Curtis; step-sons, Greg (Carolyn) Livengood, Brent (Kay) Neal; grandchildren, Mattie Livengood, Jake Livengood, Allen D. “Trevor” Curtis III, Logan Curtis, and Chole Curtis.

Ina Gertrude RossAge 72 of Cottontown passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Hendersonville Medical Center. She was born September 12, 1946 in Watsonville, CA to Almar & Delphia Kenney Crawford. She worked as a janitor for Howell Valley School System in Missouri before her retirement. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She loved camping, bingo and reading, especially books about the Amish. She was baptised into Christ at Gospel Hill Church of Christ in Missouri, but she and her husband were currently members of Birdwell’s Chapel Church of Christ She was married to Richard Ross on September 11, 1964 in Leavenworth, Kansas and they were married 54 years at the time of her death.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lewis Crawford, Karl Crawford, Arlin Crawford and James Crawford; sisters, Anna Hall and Sharon Crafton. She is survived by her husband, Richard Ross; son, Thomas (Veronica) Ross, both of Cottontown, TN; 2 grandchildren, Adrienne (Russ) Heflin and Dakota (Annalisa) Ross, both of White House, TN; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Olivia Ross, White House, TN; special friends, Janice Newlin and Virginia Hensley.

Diane was born on September 8, 1949 in Springfield, Tn. to the late Jack and Elise Nicholson Webb. She worked in customer service. She was an artist, was very kind hearted to anyone she met and very religious. She was of the Catholic faith.

Charles WelchCharles Welch, age 88 of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019.

Charles was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, Mary Irene. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus. He was a much-loved volunteer at the Hendersonville Medical Center and he was happiest on the water with a fishing pole in his hand.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marion; and brothers John and Edward. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Suzanne (Ron) Zellem, Patrice (Kevin) Walsh, and Joseph (Alona) Welch; his grandchildren, Rob (Kristen) Zellem, Jennifer (Ryan) Reed, Katie (John) Gibson, Michael Walsh, Kelly Walsh, and Gregory Welch with mother, Lisa Welch; and great-grandchildren, Aurora and Freja Reed, and one baby Gibson on the way.

Obituary for Justin Daniel Nissen

Justin Daniel NissenJustin Daniel Nissen, age 29 of Hendersonville, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, March 22, 2019.

Justin loved Jesus, his daughter Hannah, his new bride Amber Warren, and iced coffee. He graduated from Beech Senior High School and was near graduation from Volunteer State Community College (Associate’s Degree in Business). His longest employment was at the MGM window factory. Early on, he was an Assistant Painter for Tony Rawls. He was known for singing along to contemporary Christian songs at the top of his lungs very off-key while driving his truck with the windows down. He was active in Life Church, One Stone Nashville, Tres Dias, Celebrate Recovery, chaired a Life Group, gave Bibles to Homeward Bound graduating classes and touched many lives in a positive and profound way. He had a passion for evangelism. He had an affection for Elevation Church and Bethel Church music. He volunteered at Christian concerts for World Vision. He was able to take his daughter on a very memorable Christian mission trip to Costa Rica this year and personally baptized daughter Hannah Mae this year at a Life Church celebration.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Keith Nissen, who died in 2003. He is survived by his mother, Nina Naffziger Nissen; his sister, Emily Christine Nissen; his new wife, Amber Warren; and his father- & mother-in-law, Donnie and Tara Warren; and also survived by paternal and maternal aunts and uncles and cousins. Justin and Amber recently eloped.

floral squareHis family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday, April 2, from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Life Church in Hendersonville (Indian Lake Boulevard). His funeral service will be held immediately following at Life Church the same day at 1:30pm with Campus Pastor Joel Wilkie officiating, with the assistance of Rev. Mark Lancaster of One Stone Nashville Church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers and are still being finalized. Youth serving as Honorary Pallbearers include Bennett, Brayden, JShawn and Hailey. A Private Interment will follow (family only). A GoFundMe page and fundraiser have been established.

Donation in his honor can be made to Joyce Meier Ministries foundation, which provides fresh water around the world and assists disaster victims and victims of sexual trafficking. There is a separate fund for Hannah’s next mission trip.

Obituary for Robert David Hagewood

Robert David HagewoodRobert David Hagewood of White House, TN peacefully passed away at the age of 71 on Friday, March 22, 2019. He was born in Nashville, TN and is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Dickerson Hagewood & W.P. Hagewood and a brother, William Neil Hagewood.

David is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Glaus Hagewood; sons, Robert Keith (Christy) and Matthew David (Danielle). He is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Maria, Amanda, Natalie, Andrew, Amelia and Roman. He will be their “Poppa” forever. Brothers Paul (Mary Ellen), Tommy (Ruby) and twin Douglas (Diana), sister-in-law Charlotte Hagewood and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

David honorably served his country as a Corpsman attached to the Marines during the Vietnam war. He enjoyed many hobbies, several of which he shared with Linda. He loved their trips to Knoxville for the Lady Vols basketball games and touring different areas of this beautiful country and socializing with friends. His favorite lunch of the week was with his “Retired old men eating out (Romeo) group.”
David was a member of Kemper Heights Church of Christ, where in years past he taught classes, preached and worked with the young people, many of whom still remember the nicknames he gave them. He had great faith in God and lived his life toward reaching his heavenly home. Even though he endured many health issues he never said “why me” it was always “Why not me”. The family thanks all the friends and family that have supported them through this journey and the doctors and medical staff at Vanderbilt hospital and NHC Sumner in Gallatin.

Paul was retired from the United Methodist Publishing House After 39.5 years of service. He was an avid boater, fisherman and hunter. He was a former member of the Nashville Corvette Club. After retirement, he enjoyed shooting sporting clays.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Pauline Shoulders. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Shoulders.

The family received friends on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 4pm until 8pm, and his Celebration of Life Service will be on Tuesday, March 26 at 1pm at Austin & floral squareBell Funeral Home in Hendersonville with Gene Brown officiating. Dillon Starks, Chris Starks, Jimmy Gayle, Jamie Diaz, Brian Maynard, Rusty Wallace and Gary Sutton will serve as pallbearers and Ken Starks, Don Crotzer, Ross Shoulders, Terry O’Connell and Harold Isabell serving as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
