Obituary for Gilbert Lee Rust

Gilbert-Rust-obitGilbert Lee Rust, 69, of Allensville, KY, died Friday May 27, 2016 at St. Thomas Hospital West. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday May 31st at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Troy Rust, Rev. Carl Freudenthal, Rev. John Rushing, and Rev. Tyler Estep officiating. Interment will follow in the Belmont Cemetery in Allensville, KY. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Gilbert was born September 17, 1946 in Christian County, KY to the late Ernest Gilbert and Susie Belle Hollins Rust. He was a wood worker by trade and was a member of Red River Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for over 25 years. Gilbert loved his Lord, his family, and his church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Myra Daubenspeck Rust.

floral squareGilbert is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Dayna and Mitch Lancaster, Carmen and Adam Little both of Cedar Hill, his son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Troy and Amy Rust of Hurdle Mills, NC, his beloved friend: Lena Spurgeon of Springfield, grandchildren: Christen (Jonathan) McGahey, Hope, Emily, and Noelle Lancaster, Addie, Amelia, AnMarie, Jasper, and Aria Rust, Addison, Jonathan, Drew, Olivia, Delaney, and McKenna Little. Gilbert’s sixteenth grandchild is due to be born on his birthday in September, and his first great granddaughter is due to be born in October.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday May 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. James Dean, Dr. Jerry Oakley, and Martin Babb officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Robert Fowler, Stephen Fowler, Paul Sweatt, Greg Fowler, Ronnie Holman, Bobby Payne, Tommy Perkins, and Dan Rader serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were all former and current members of the Springfield Civitan Club, the Springfield Baptist Unity Sunday School class, and Donnie “Rerun” Hart. The family received friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Fowler was born May 10, 1933 in Davidson County to the late Comer M. and Altie Stuart Fowler. He was a graduate of the Springfield High School Class of 1952, where he played football under Coach Boyce Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was the co-owner of the former Springfield Auto Parts and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Mr. Fowler was a member and past president of the Springfield Civitan Club, a past president of the former Coopertown Ruritan Club, past commander of Post 48 American Legion, a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Springfield for over 40 years, and he was a founding member of the former Robertson County Fire Department. Mr. Fowler enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Alvin Fowler.

Freda was born May 18, 1955 in Robertson County to the late Roy and Susie Graves Reynolds. She was a homemaker by profession, and a caretaker by love. She was member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. Freda loved gardening, flowers, her animals, and going to yard sales and thrift stores.

Mrs. Stewart was born September 16, 1933 in Robertson County to the late Thomas Edwin and Vivian Corinne Mooneyhan Lawrence. A graduate of East Robertson High School class of 1951, she was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church, was a homemaker, and was a loving wife and mother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy E. Stewart; brothers, Bill Lawrence and Tommy Lawrence; and sisters, Sarah Iva Shoulders and Betty Cowan.

Mr. Blackburn was born January 10, 1945 in Robertson County to the late Hassel and Elizabeth Burns Blackburn. He was retired from Unarco where he worked for 30 years as a welder and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. In his spare time, Terry loved to fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Osborne; a sister, Shirley Kurbis; and brothers, David and Steven Blackburn.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 30, 2016 from 4-8pm and again on Tuesday from 11am until the hour of service at Noon.

Mr. Stuard was born March 31, 1937 in Adams to the late Thomas Miller and Flossie Bedwell Stuard. He was self-employed as an owner and independent truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Stuard was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.

Ms. Massie was born November 16, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Frank W. Martin, Sr. and Sadie Amanda McCoy Aubert. She worked as a caregiver and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents Ms. Massie is preceded in death by her step-father, Ted Aubert. She is also preceded in death by her son, Frank Smith, her sister, Ruby Higgins and her brother, Frank Martin, Jr.

Ms. Massie is survived by her brother, Donald Martin of Nashville; her sister, Bonnie (William) Cochran of Chapel Hill; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Ms. Massie will be sadly missed as she was loved by everyone who knew her.

She also loved spending time with her family, especially the children and was loved so much and will be missed by all of them.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sons, Pastor Roger (Monecca) Brewer, Greenbrier, TN and Sonny (Jeannie) Brewer, Florida; daughter, Debbie (Danny) Hinson, Greenbrier, TN; brother, Andy (Michelle) Mugnolo, Illinois; 7 grandchildren, Jackey (Chad) Hardin, Jonathan (Jennifer) Brewer, Daniel (Kelsey) Hinson, Kevin (Ashley) Hinson, Jesse (Kelsie) Brewer, Matthew Hinson and Joshua Brewer; 2 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church with Ivan Bell officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

She was born on August 28, 1920 in Nashville, TN to the late William and Mada Morrow Goodman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh David Bell; son, William Glenn Bell; brothers, Eli Goodman, Charlie Goodman; sisters, Lorene Russell Nannie Wiederholt and great-granddaughter, Chloe McMahan.

floral squareShe was a Seamstress at Hayes Garments and a 50 year plus member of Greenbrier First Baptist Church where she was active in the women’s group and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed working in the Nursery at Church and watching her kids play ball. She also loved to cook and loved her family.

She is survived by sons, Troy (Lucille) Bell of Ridgetop, TN, Garry (Patricia) Bell of Dalton GA, Mike (Bonna) Bell of Bell Buckle, TN, Terry Bell of Donelson, Ivan (Amy) Bell of Springfield, TN; daughters, Gwen (Bill) Evans of Ridgetop, TN, Teresa (Bill) Kautzman of Franklin, TN, Myra (Donnie) Bryant of Greenbrier, TN; 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as Pallbearers.

He served in the US Air Force during World War II , earning several medals,where he met and married his late wife of 61 years, Dorothy Garontakos Tourkakis January 19, 1946. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith and had a deep passion and love for the Lord. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He later worked at Western & Southern Life Insurance Company until his retirement.

Preceded in death by mother, Clara Poierier; father, Samuel Tourkakis; step-mother, Beatrice Tourkakis; wife, Dorothy Garontakos Tourkakis; daughter, Elaine Tourkakis; great-grandsons, John Michael and Joshua James Peterson; sister, Joanne Krawczyk and brother, Milton Tourkakis.

He was deployed on one tour of duty to Korea and on two tours of duty to Vietnam. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church. He is survived by wife, Edna Duncan Mayton, White House, TN; son, Terry (Nurys) Mayton, Portland, TN; daughters, Debra (Dave) Moore, Fayetteville, TN and Stephanie Fox, Spring City, TN; step-sons, Terry (Vickie) Lane, Nashville, TN and Jim (Kim) Mayton Springfield, TN; step-daughter, Debbie Browne, White House, TN; brother, Vernon (Shelby) Mayton, Nashville, TN; sister Clara Mae (Wayne) Clark, Carmack, Illinois; 3 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

floral squareFuneral service was held Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11am in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Pastor Joe Lang officiating. Visitation was Wednesday, May 25, 2016 2-4 and 6-8pm and Thursday, May 26, 2016 9-11am at the funeral home. Interment followed in Middle Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery McCrory Lane Pegram, TN with full military honors. Pallbearers were be Terry Mayton, John Singer, Dave Moore, Johnny Lane, Andrew Mayton and Danny Bowling. Remains Rest At Austin & Bell Funeral Home White House, Tennessee.
