Obituary for Raymond Howard Duncan

Raymond Howard DuncanRaymond Howard Duncan, 66, of Joelton, died Monday May 7, 2018 at his home. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday May 8th at 3:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brother David Curtis officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary McQuown, Jason Chance, Jeff Chance, Tim Dowell, Zach Sneed, Sam Anderson, Ellis Woodcock, and Raymond H. Duncan, Jr. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Mr. Duncan was born February 16, 1952 in Davidson County to the late Freddie Howard and Rachel Naomi Veach Duncan. He was a truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Duncan enjoyed fishing, playing pool, cutting up and joking with everyone, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson: Matthew Duncan, and his siblings: Brenda Moody and Freddie Duncan.

floral squareMr. Duncan is survived by his wife: Tonya Duncan, his son and daughter-in-law: Raymond H. and April Duncan, Jr., of Joelton, his daughters and son-in-law: Brittney and Aaron Bates of Portland, Chasity Bourne of Cross Plains, and Candice Duncan of Joelton, his sisters: Linda McQuown of Lebanon, Lula Chance Anderson of Chapmansboro, and Kathy Hollandsworth of Springfield, and by 10 grandchildren.

Obituary for Patrick Joseph King Jr.

Patrick Joseph King Jr.Patrick Joseph King, Jr., of Greenbrier, died Thursday May 3, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday May 5th at 3:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Deacon Mike Morris officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Lynn Bell, Eddy Mitchell, Patrick King, David Gary, Mitchell Kirby, Irving Ginsberg, Dennis Miller, and Lance Wright serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. King was born June 16, 1955 in Jamaica, NY. He was the owner and operator of his own trucking company and was a communicate of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Hendersonville. Mr. King was an avid sports fan, loving the UT Vols, Tennessee Titans, and Nashville Predators.

Obituary for Ann Draughon Hancock

Ann Draughon HancockAnn Draughon Hancock, 89, of Springfield, peacefully passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Springfield Heights.

Ann, the daughter of the late Garland and Reese Rust Draughon, was born March 8, 1929, in Springfield, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her twin grandsons, James Landon and Leslie Dale Hancock, Jr.; her brother, Bill Draughon; and her nephew, David Draughon.

Ann was married to the one and only love of her life, Don, for 69 years.

She was a devoted member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she served in past years as church choir leader and children’s choir leader. She was a wonderful homemaker, who loved to cook and entertain. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and especially loved her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family will always remember her with love and respect for the thoughtful person she was.

Those left to cherish her memory are her faithful and loving husband, Don; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Rick Benton of Greeneville, TN; one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Lissa Hancock of Springfield. Four grandchildren, Andy Benton and wife, Jamie, of Jonesborough, TN; Lieutenant Colonel Brian Benton and wife, Ella, of Columbus, MS; Ashley Turner and husband, Ben, of Brentwood, TN; and Matthew Hancock and wife, Jodi, of Springfield; fifteen great-grandchildren and niece, Kelly Draughon Bayley.

floral squareThe family received friends from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday May 4th at the Hopewell Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Church with Rev. Jim Woodard conducting the service. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian Benton, Andy Benton, Matthew Hancock, Kenneth Mason, Nathan Fisher, Landon Parks, Josh Benton and Ben Turner

If so desired, memorial contributions may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church Mission Fund. All donations may be sent in care of the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Helen DowneyHelen Graham Downey, age 94, of Springfield, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at NorthCrest Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11am at the Springfield Baptist Church with Brother Martin Babb and Brother James Dean officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church from 10am until the hour of service at 11am.

Mrs. Downey was born February 1, 1924 in St. Pauls, NC to the late Archibald H. and Lena Nicholson Graham. She was a nurse and member of Springfield Baptist Church.

Mrs. Downey is survived by her brother, Irvin Graham of North Carolina; and her special friends, Mary Holt of Muskogee, OK and Clay Wooten of Springfield.

Marvin GleavesMarvin Lee Gleaves, Jr., age 83, of Chapmansboro, died Monday, May 7, 2018 at Vantage Pointe in Ashland City.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock pm, Saturday, May 12th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Shane Ray and Vickie Pritchett officiating.

Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham with members of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00PM on Friday, May 11th, and again on Saturday beginning at 1:00PM until the hour of service at 2:00PM.

Mr. Gleaves was born on January 15, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Marvin Lee and Edna Bell Gleaves, Sr. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He was retired from the State of Tennessee with 38 years of service and was also retired from United States Army Reserve with 28 years of service, having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Gleaves had previously served as an Alderman and Vice-Mayor for the Town of Pleasant View, also served on the town’s Planning and Zoning Board, and served as a Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department Board Member. He also served as the Swine Barn Superintendent for the Tennessee State Fair, and was an accomplished woodworker.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gleaves is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Gleaves; and two sisters.

floral squareSurvivors include his sons, David Lee (Leigh) Gleaves, Daniel Glenn (Susan) Gleaves, and Thomas Edward (Janet) Gleaves; grandchildren Ashley (Paul), Evan, Brian, Heather, Jason, Landon, Davin, and George; and great-granddaughter, Efie.

If so desired, the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, the USO (United Service Organization), or to a hospice organization of one’s choice.

Mrs. Coker was born on October 1, 1932 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Carl and Daphene Johnson. She was in Printing and a loving person to many people.

Robert Milton DorrisRobert Milton Dorris, age 85 of Hendersonville, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018. He is a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Hendersonville. Earlier during his life, Bob was the Music Director at several churches. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Barker and Ethel Dorris; his daughter, Pamela Dorris; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Dorris; his daughter, Angela (Kevin) Dycus; grandchildren, Sasha Park and Sinjin Park; and his sister, Virginia Utley.

The family received friends 4pm to 8pm on Monday, May 7th and 10am to 12pm on Tuesday, May 8th at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier. The funeral service will be at 12pm on Tuesday, May 8th at the funeral home with Rev. Ben Bounds officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

Tammie was born July 1, 1970 in Chicago, IL to the late Robert and Linda Hulsey Pankow. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dwayne Pankow.
Tammie worked hard on the Tobacco farms around Robertson County most of her life.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 12pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother David Bradley officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with her grandsons, Chance Livingston, Brett Fitz, Fitz Lassing and Mac Lassing serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10am until the hour of service at 12pm.

Mrs. Fitz was born January 29, 1923 in Coopertown, TN to the late John Martin and Carrie Justice Frey. She was a homemaker and member of the New Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Fitz was an avid golfer, she loved to bowl, and was an accomplished seamstress.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Fitz is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ernest Fitz, seven of her siblings, and her son, Bobby Fitz.
