Obituary for Evelyn Blessing

Evelyn Gower Blessing of Clarksville, age 84 passed away peacefully November 05, 2019 in the home of Ray & Sandy Blessing of Clarksville. Mrs. Blessing was preceded in death by husband, Ted Blessing and father & mother, Rayburn & Frances Head Gower.

Evelyn is survived by sons, Ray Blessing (Sandy), Randy Blessing (Kim), Jerry Blessing (Shelley), David Blessing (Felecia); and daughter Linda Blessing; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; sisters, Ruby Gower Jinnette of Pleasant View and Sue Gower Naron of Murfreesboro; and faithful little dog, Lucky.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of Walton’s Chapel Church. She was a devoted grandmother, loved spending time with her family and many friends, never met a stranger and was a good neighbor. She enjoyed her flowers and spent many hours caring for them. Evelyn & Ted owned and operated the Diamond B Quarter horse boarding farm for many years.

Celebration of Life for Mrs. Blessing will be 1pm. Friday, November 08, with Reverend Craig Cross and Reverend George Adir officiating. Burial will follow at RestHaven Memorial Garden in Clarksville with Daniel Blessing, David Blessing, Wyatt Blessing, Allen Jinnette, Chase Cunningham and Jason Walker serving as pallbearers.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3pm until 8pm on the afternoon of Thursday, November 07 and on Friday, from 11am until hour of service at 1pm at Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View.

Obituary for Celeste Oxford

Celeste Griscom Oxford, age 62, of Nashville, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at her home. A Memorial service will be held Monday, November 11, 2019 at 2:30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville with Dr. Ryan Moore officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 1pm until the hour of service at 2:30pm.

Ms. Oxford was born August 22, 1957 in Nashville to the late Tom Griscom, Jr. and Ruth Griscom Wagner. Upon graduating from Harpeth Hall, she began pursuing her Bachelor Degree at UTK before finishing with a degree in Interior Design from O’More College of Design. She had an immense talent for design and designed interiors for Earl Swensson Associates, Gaylord/Opryland and was the proud owner of Oxford Interiors.

Ms. Oxford enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, puzzles, traveling, and cooking. Her favorite past time was being in the company of friends and family who knew her for her smile and wit. Her largest passion and loves in life were her daughters.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Oxford is preceded in death by her loving step-father, Rusty Wagner. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer and Kendall Oxford of Nashville; sister, Carrie Nygren of Milwaukee, WI; and nieces, Lane and Kate Nygren.

Obituary for Albert Calvin Hall III

Albert Calvin Hall, III, 54, of Springfield, passed away on Friday November 1, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday November 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Donnie Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Albert was born May 7, 1965 in Springfield to the late Albert Calvin and Reither Louise Nixon Hall, Jr. He graduated from East Robertson High School. He was a maintenance technician with Macy’s Distribution Center in Portland and was of the Baptist faith. Albert was a Mason and a member of Western Star Lodge #9 in Springfield, and he loved spending time with his dogs.

Dorena Ann Nichols, age 86 of Springfield and formerly of Madison, died Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Morningside of Springfield.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brantley Darnell, Matthew Simmons, Scott Simmons, Jay Bedsole, Jay Darnell, and Gregory Turner serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12 noon until the hour of service.

Mrs. Nichols was born December 23, 1932 in Robertson County to the late Henry and Vera Spain Wilson. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ and formerly a member of Rivergate Church of Christ. She was a great cook and she floral squareadored her family. She was also a graduate of Coopertown High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ralph Nichols.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Faith Ann and Allen Gunn of Wetumka, AL, Dianne and Randy Simmons of Ft. Myers, FL, and Glynda Kay and Greg Turner of Chattanooga; brother, Tommy Wilson of Springfield; 7 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

KIMBERLY DAWN HOLMES May 15, 1962 ~ October 29. 2019

Kimberly Dawn Holmes entered this life on May 15, 1962 to the proud parents of the late Phillip Nathaniel Holmes and Evelyn Faye Holmes. This happy birth took place at Jesse Holman Hospital in Springfield, Tennessee. She had one brother, Kenneth DeWayne Holmes, who preceded her in death in 1964.

Kimberly was educated in Robertson County where she attended Bransford Elementary School, and graduated from Springfield High School in 1980. Kimberly was a joyful student who embraced her life and her education. Her love of sports was realized on the softball team at Springfield High School. After graduation, she attended MTSU for one year which equipped her to enter the workforce in Springfield. Kimberly was employed by the Robertson County Recycle Center for over ten years. She was later employed by Collins & Aikman Factory, and Electrolux Appliances. She was also employed with the Kroger Company. She retired from Electrolux in 2017 due to health problems.

Kimberly’s greatest achievement was the birth of her daughter, Kayla Delrae Holmes. She cherished her daughter, and Kayla became the centerpiece of her life. They shared many special moments together and with Mother Faye Holmes. Their special bond was extended with the birth of Kayla’s children, Adriana Denae and A. J. McCarley. As a grandmother, Kimberly was able to experience the joys and adventures of her grandchildren.

Kimberly was known for her willing spirit to help other people in general. She was a friend to everyone she met. Her love for family moved her to assist in the care of her father, mother, grandparents, aunts, and grandchildren. She performed many charitable acts of mercy in her lifetime that were unknown to the public.

Kimberly’s presence will be greatly missed by her family, friends, coworkers, classmates, and others to whom her kindness was shown. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Kayla Holmes of Springfield, TN; grandchildren, Adriana and A.J. McCarley of Springfield, TN; mother, Faye Holmes of Springfield, TN; half-sister, Felicia Freeman of Springfield, TN; two aunts, Barbara Thomas and Burma Shannon both of Springfield, TN; two uncles, Harry Hilliard of Greenbelt, MD, Paul Nixon of IN; god daughter, Malia Shannon, a host of relatives and friends, Antonio McCarley Sr., and special friend, Karen Brown.

Age 71 of Cross Plains, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home after a fierce battle with A.L.S. He was born February 3, 1948 in Jackson, Michigan to James Lewis & Norma Helen Beach Mettler. Mr. Mettler was a local teacher, coach and Vietnam Vet. He recently did an interview with Smokey Barn News, knowing that his time was short. He spoke of his love for teaching, coaching and Robertson county. He wanted to reach out to the community to thank them for welcoming him with open arms as he began his teaching career at East Robertson High School years ago. At the age of 49, he attended Vol State for two years and then TSU for two years, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in 2001 to teach. It was just three weeks ago that Mr. Mettler felt well enough to attend an A.L.S. golf charity event at The Legacy Golf Course in Springfield, TN. The event raised $25K for A.L.S. research. Dale Mettler was a hobbyist who loved riding horses, restoring cars and golf. He even collected Native American artifacts and turned them into jewelry. He was also an author, songwriter and member of the White House American Legion Post #206. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines in Vietnam and had served as the Quartermaster for the VFW.

He is preceded in death by his parents,James Lewis & Norma Helen Beach Mettler. He is survived by his daughter, April Dawne (Kassie Lane) Mettler, Paducah, KY; sisters, Norma (Jack) Majewski, Safety Harbor, FL and Rochelle (Doug) Bird, Tecumseh, MI.

Visitation is planned for Sunday, November 10, 2019 1:30-2:30pm in the gymnasium, with military honors. Inurnment will be at a later date in First Presbyterian Church Columbarium in Tecumseh, MI.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a Machinist for Pirelli Tires.

Mark Wayne Blackburn, age 63 of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital by St. Thomas Midtown.

The family received friends 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, October 30th and 9am to 11am on Thursday, October 31st at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier. The funeral service followed at 11am at the funeral home. Burial followed in Lights Chapel Cemetery.

Mark was born August 4, 1956 in Springfield, TN to the late William Johnson and Frances Lassiter Blackburn. He was also preceded in death by daughters, Marcy Blackburn, Kristy Blackburn; brother, Kenny Blackburn and sister, Marilyn Potetee.
He was employed at Unarco as a machinist. He loved bowling, going to the mountains, nature and wildlife, the 700 club and his family.

Mrs. West was born September 14, 1930 in Robertson County to the late George Clyde and Willie Henry Garrison Ayers. She graduated from the last class at Cedar Hill High School in 1949. Mrs. West was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and was known for her homemade pickles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Marvin West, siblings: Thomas Ayers, Donald Ayers, Henry Ayers, Lois Robertson, Viola Anderson, Wilmoth Goodwin, and Julia Sneed.

Miss. Krisle was born October 6, 1928 in Springfield to the late Arthur and Mamie Robertson Krisle. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Miss. Krisle worked as a caretaker and sitter for people in their homes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Vernice Porter, Ollie Mae Ogg, and Clebren Krisle, by her nieces: Martha Tate and Juanita Coffman, and by her nephew: Jerry Krisle.

Harold Gene Denning, 85, of Cottontown, passed away on Monday October 28, 2019 at Skyline Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday October 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Reverend Russ Noss and Dr. Bill Owen officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Ryan Denning, Joshua Denning, Seth Broadus, Fletcher Broadus, and Mike Broadus serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and then on Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Mr. Denning was born October 22, 1934 in Portland to the late James Evie and Pearl Knight Denning. He graduated from Portland High School, where he played football for the Portland Panthers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Denning also played football for the Marine Corp while in service. He was a retired Construction Inspector for TVA and the Corp of Engineers. Mr. Denning was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and was a member of the Portland Lodge. He loved working jigsaw puzzles and all types of sports, especially the UT Vols and Portland Panthers. Mr. Denning loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always wanted to be involved in what they were doing.

Herman Reeves “Jr.” Murphey, 66, of Cedar Hill, passed from this life on Thursday October 24, 2019 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Memorial services were conducted Wednesday October 30th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County with Reverend Andy Ward officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Garrison, Michael Cobb, Clyde Dean, Ronny Noles, Randy Holland, Danny Atchley, Kenneth Reynolds, and his Destin golf buddies. The family received friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Murphey was born December 28, 1952 in Springfield to the late Herman R. and Katherine Pierce Murphey, Sr. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1971, and then attended Austin Peay State University. He was the co-owner of the former Xanadu in Springfield and was a retired Lab Technician from Dupont. Mr. Murphey was a member of Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved playing golf and pickleball, working crosswords, and going to Destin with family and friends. He was an avid TN Vols and TN Titans fan.

Obituary for Larry Lee

Larry Gordon Lee, age 82 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died, Sunday, October 27, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services were held at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church, Wednesday, October 30, at 2:00PM with Bro. Don Dungan and Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial followed in the Lee Cemetery in Coopertown with Matt Redfern, Bruce Drake, Todd Lee, Tommy Lee, Brian Edwards, and Mickey Drake served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Greer, Chip Duke, Johnny Corlew, and the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department.

The family received friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, Tuesday, October 29th, from 2-8:00PM, and again on Wednesday from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM at the church.

Mr. Lee was born on April 4, 1937 in Flewellyn, Tennessee to the late Herman and Gert Henderson Lee. He was a founder of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, a longtime manager of grocery stores in Pleasant View, and retired after 30 years driving the school bus for Cheatham County Schools. Larry was a beloved member of the staff of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View since opening in May of 2010. He served in the National Guard and was a member of Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Charlie and Bobby Lee.

Obituary for JR Reeves

Age 89 of Goodlettsville went home to be with the Lord Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Skyline Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1930 in Nashville, TN to JT and Rosie Cobble Reeves. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry before his retirement. Mr. Reeves was a member of Millersville Community Church, where he served faithfully. He loved his church and spent each Sunday morning in prayer prior to services in the sanctuary. He was an avid fisherman, loved feeding the hummingbirds and enjoyed making homemade ice cream for everyone, especially his church family. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, JT & Rosie Cobble Reeves; wife, Joyce Redding Reeves; son, Tommy Reeves; sister, Evelyn Travis.

Danny Wade Morris, age 61 of Clarksville, Tennessee, died Saturday, October 26th, 2019 in Clarksville.

Memorial services were held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, Wednesday, October 30th, at 6:00PM with Bro. Gene Parton officiating.

The family received friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, October 30th, from 3:00PM until the hour of service at 6:00PM.

Danny was born on November 12, 1957 in Clarksville, Tennessee to Fred Morris and the late Marcia Jean Balthrop Morris. He was previously employed at Triton Boat Company.

Timothy “Timmy” William Elmore, age 29 of Greenbrier, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 in Ridgetop, TN.

Timmy was born June 14, 1990 in Springfield to Tracy Elmore and Tammie Adcock O’Bryan. He was preceded in death grandparents, Richard and Lila Elmore and stepfather, Clint O’Bryan.

He loved anything that was nature. He loved hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. He loved his family and always was able to make people laugh. Last but not lease he loved his dog, Bella. He was of the Baptist faith.

floral squareHe is survived by his father, Tracy (Bonnie) Elmore; mother, Tammie Adcock O’Bryan; sister, Sarah (Shane) Kaatz; brothers, Adam (Megan) Elmore, Zachary Elmore, John Elmore; grandfather, Roger (Mary) Adcock; 7 nieces and 3 nephews. Pallbearers will be Adam Elmore, Zachary Elmore, John Elmore and Shane Kaatz.

The family received friends 4pm to 8pm Thursday, October 31, 2019 and 10am to 2pm on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier. The funeral service was held at 2pm Friday at the funeral home with Bro. Donnie Bryant and Bro. Jon Briggs officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Age 86 of White House passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. She was born April 15, 1933 in White House, TN to Van McCoy & Ezma Escue Jones. She worked at the Browser and was a member of White House First Baptist Church and the Joy Workers Sunday School Class.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jim Balor; second husband, Charles F. McMurtry; one sister.

Gloria Jeannette Chambliss, age 84 of Joelton, Tennessee, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 24, 2019 at her home.

A Celebration of her Home Going service was held at Lifehouse Fellowship Church at 223 Gifford Pl. in Joelton, Tuesday, October 29, at 12:00PM with Pastor Dwayne Lewis officiating. Burial followed at Joelton Hills Memory Gardens with Sean Moule, Brent Miller, Bryan Laurenson, Ricky Sullins, Samuel Bruce, Michael Booker, Josh Randall, and Scott Kerr serving as pallbearers. Cheatham County Central High School class of 1953 served as honorary pallbearers.

The family received friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, Sunday, October 27th, from 12-6:00PM, Monday, October 28th from 2-7:00PM, and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00AM until the hour of service at 12:00PM.

Mrs. Chambliss was born on April 21, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Walter and Louise Pardue Williams. She was a homemaker and lived her life for Jesus and was very involved in missionary work distributing Bibles in other countries. She was a member of the New Seasons Church and the Lifehouse Fellowship Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Walter Cernel Williams; and sister, Katie Whitaker.

Age 51 of White House passed away October 23, 2019 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was born September 9, 1968 in Baton Rouge, LA to Edward William Henderson & Della Lurline Griffin. She worked as a registered nurse for Vanderbilt before becoming disabled. She enjoyed helping people and that was the reason that she became a nurse. She made friends with everyone she met and gave her all to everyone she tried to help. She was a second mother to many of Jared’s friends. She also loved her Canine companions, Cooper and Baxter.

Henry “Jan” Douglas, age 72, of Hendersonville and formerly of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Hendersonville Medical Center.

A Visitation of Remembrance was held Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 4-7pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield for all family and friends.

Mr. Douglas was born February 26, 1947 in Springfield to the late Richard Lee and Charlie Mae Hudgens Douglas. He worked in Management at HCA and liked to fish. He was a fan of Nascar and Alabama Crimson Tide football but loved his family, especially his kids and grandkids.

A graveside service was held Friday, October 25, 2019 at 1:30pm at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Burial followed with family and friends serving as pallbearers. No visitation was held prior to the graveside service.

Mrs. Cleveland was born January 22, 1944 in Huntsville, AL to the late Ruben and Mattie Maddle Hopkins. She was a homemaker and a Christian.
