Obituary for Marilda Ann Smith

Marilda Ann Smith, 72, died Sunday October 28th in Greenbrier, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cletis Beach of Hawthorne,  FL, and Betty Hollingsworth of Perry, FL. For several years she worked at the Davidson County Clerks office. She left there to move to Greenbrier, TN where she was an educator at Greenbrier Elementary and Watauga Elementary Schools. During this time she served on both the TEA and NEA boards representing Education Support Personnel. Mrs. Smith was also involved in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She served on the Legion of Mary as a bookkeeper. She also sang in the choir at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She will be forever remembered for her love of singing, education, and children.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Nathan Smith; her son Chris Ozment of Houston, TX; daughter Beth (David) Duryea of Franklin, TN; son Johnathan Smith of Greenbrier, TN; a brother, Max (Jean) Beech of Hawthorne ,FL; sister, Thomasina England of Columbia ,SC; brother, Richard (Belinda) Wheeler of Wauchula, FL; sister, Velma Vickery of Perry, FL; and brother Vernon floral squareHollingsworth of Sarasota, FL; stepchildren, Terry (Debbie) Smith of Cedar Hill, TN, Brian (Rosa) Smith of White House, TN; grandchildren, Samuel Duryea of Franklin, TN, Jacob Duryea of Franklin, TN, Timothy Mollins, Mandy Hampton, Heather Smith, Angel Mayorga, Zebastian Mayorga, and Justin Smith.

Video Tribute

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm at Springfield Funeral Home with a Rosary to follow. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at  1:30 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Springfield. Entombment will follow at Springfield Memory Gardens, Springfield, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Nelline E. BaldwinNelline E. Baldwin, age 92 of Adairville, KY, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Creekwood Place in Russellville, KY. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Dean Funeral Chapel with Rev. Junior England and Rev. Johnie Baldwin, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Jonathan Baldwin, Josh Baldwin, Matt Heitcamp, Barry Turns, Samuel Baldwin, and Ryan Devine serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 11 AM until the hour of service.

Mrs. Baldwin was born May 4, 1926 in Allen County, KY to the late Jeannie Potter and Magnola King England. She was a member of Logan Mill Emanuel Church of Christ and enjoyed reading her Bible. As her family described her, she was a prayer warrior. She worked for many years at Auburn Hosiery Mill in Adairville and later worked as a tutor. In 1994 she was awarded the Tutor of the Year through the Green Thumb Adult Education Program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnie Ward Baldwin, Sr.; a grandson, Chad Batson; six sisters; and two brothers.

floral squareShe is survived by her sons, Melvin Baldwin and wife LaDonna of Adairville, KY, Johnie W. Baldwin, Jr. and wife Deborah Jo of Springfield, TN, and Stephen W. Baldwin of Adairville, KY; daughter, Carol Baldwin Devine and husband James of Foster, RI; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

The family request, if so desired, for memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.

Donna JonesDonna Faye Jones, 75, of Springfield, passed away on Friday October 26, 2018 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Smith and Reverend Bob Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tres Pettus, Chase Pettus, AJ Luck, Blake Jones, Joedy Hallman, Bryan Jones, Brandon Jones, and Jonathan Drake serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Slate, Jeremy Slate, Aaron Slate, James Slate, and Keith Mitchell. The family will receive friends on Friday November 2nd from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday November 3rd from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Donna was born March 22, 1943 in Orlinda. She first retired from Nasco, and then from the Springfield Wal-Mart as a clothing associate. She was a member of Orlinda Baptist Church, and she attended both North Springfield Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church. Donna was a member of the Night Owls FCE and the Springfield Senior Citizen Center, where she enjoyed going on many outings and trips. She loved crafts, sewing, traveling, and cooking. Her love for cooking later turned into a greater love for eating out and trying many new restaurants along the way. Her favorite pastime was getting in the car with her late husband, Bobby Lee, and traveling the country side and never knowing what backroads they would get on or where their next destination might be. She was always the reader of the road map and considered herself as giving better travel directions than any Garmin or GPS device. Her prize possession was her specially printed “back seat driver’s license”, of which she often showed to her late husband while he was driving.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Bruce Askew of Springfield, Melissa and David Pettus of Cedar Hill, her son and daughter-in-law: Kevin and Laura Jones of Greenbrier, her brothers and sisters-in-law: Roger and Ann Rigsby of Gallatin, Ricky and Mary Russell Rigsby of Springfield, Russell “Bubba” and Sandy Rigsby of Cottontown, her sister: Sherry Gaston of Guthrie, KY, seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Obituary for Nancy Peck

Nancy PeckNancy Jane Marshall Peck, 80, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

Nancy was born January 3, 1938 in Nashville. She was the only child of Howard and Helen Marshall. She moved to Eagleville when she was a young child and graduated from Eagleville High School. She attended college at Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of the UT Singers. Although she has lived in many different states, most of her years were spent in Springfield so that she would be nearest to her family.

Nancy dearly loved having a large family and especially loved her time spent watching and helping with their many activities, sports games, dance recitals, concerts and plays. She was proud of all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as “Nana” and many friends knew her as “Soccer Nana.” She also had a heart for animals of all kinds, kept the birds well fed and rescued many dogs and cats over the years. A true warrior at heart, she loved fiercely and would drop everything to help someone in need. Her family will miss all the laughs and adventures they shared together.

Nancy is survived by her 5 children; Melody Noah, of Hilton Head SC, Jan Bagwell (Greg), of Hendersonville TN, Lorrie Bellar (Don), of Lakeland FL, Kim Abraham (Martin), of Springfield TN and William Peck III (Cori) of Daphne, AL. Her 19 Grandchildren; MaryLu Noah-Dixon, Margaret Noah Conner, Meredith Noah, floral squareAmanda Bagwell Williams, Nikki Bagwell Basnett, Bobbi Bagwell Smith, Emmi Bagwell, Jordan Bellar, Mason Bellar Wilkerson, Blake Bellar, Preston Abraham, Garrett Abraham, Nolan Abraham, Liam Abraham, Lexi Abraham, Zimin Gu, Ashlae Sympson (John), Rachel Peck, and Emory Peck. And also her 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 3 at Austin and Bell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:30 am until the hour of Service at 1:30 pm.

Ronald CarrollRonald Walker Carroll, age 79, of Springfield, Tennessee, died Monday, October 29, 2018 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville, Tn.

His remains will be cremated and no services are planned.

Mr. Carroll was born on July 16, 1939 in West Virginia. He was retired from the United States Army and was an avid University of Alabama football fan.

He is survived by a daughter; Marlene Shea and two grandsons; Robert and Ronnie Selfridge.

Celeste McKinneyCeleste Rosson McKinney, age 67, of Adams, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Alive Hospice Madison Campus.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 at 12pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will follow in the Bellwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4-8pm and again on Friday from 11am until the hour of service at noon.

Mrs. McKinney was born July 3, 1951 in Springfield, TN. She was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Elizabeth Stewart Rosson of Springfield.

She is preceded in death by her son, Craig McKinney. She is survived by her husband, Tommy McKinney; sons, Ross McKinney and his wife, Maria Renee McKinney of Malvern, PA and Kyle McKinney and his wife, Brandie McKinney of Clarksville, TN; sisters, Libbey Hagewood and her husband, John Hagewood of Franklin, TN and Shelley Hagler and her husband, John Hagler of Cleveland, TN; and grandchildren, Luisa McKinney, Gabriel McKinney and Wesley McKinney.

Mrs. Morrow was born on November 26, 1932 in Montgomery County,Tennessee, to the late Irving Henry & Etha Mai Morrison. She was a member of the Oaklawn Free Will Baptist Church where she was the custodian for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Morrow; grandson Jeff Balthrop; son-in-law, Charles Balthrop; 6 brothers; and 2 sisters.
